IoG:RtE chapter 5: "The Dream" "Where......Where am I ???" Thought Will. "...What is this place ???" He was looking at the floor. It was gray marble tiles placed in diagonnals. He then looked up, to find nothing in front of him. Nothing...Nothing except for some stars hanging in the sky, and shooting stars passing sometimes, nebulas, twirling in their cosmic forms and the background... all black. He then heard a voice from the shadows behind him. "Why do you ask, Will ? You know this place. Don't you remember ?" It was a cold impersonnal voice, without any feeling or warmth. A maddening neutral tone. A tone that reminded him of.... "GAIA ???" He expelled. "Is that you, Gaia ?" He then heard the voice again, and turned swiftly to see who was speaking. "Yes, Child, it is me" It was her. The same old woman's head standing on the pedestral. That same face, these never-changing traits. The same mouth rictus and the half open eyes. "It is me. I have a request of you. I need you again" Will's eyes almost popped out of their orbits. Gaia summoning him ? Alright.... But Gaia asking his help ? Knowing the goddess of the earth, that was different. "Say What ???" She didn't move, she never did. "Let me finish..." Will went back to listening."...Alright" "Boy, if you think what I think, you're in for another long trip..." He tought. "Then so shall it be. I will fill you in on the situation" She then explained. "Once again, I will need your help because I can't interfere myself with the humans' lives nor with Dark Gaia" Will interrupted. "But... wait... what's wrong this time?" "Let me show you." Gaia replied. His vision changed, the Dark Space faded to reveal the Earth. He then saw an enormous star apparaoching the planet "The comet?" "Yes. It is coming back anbd it will do the same as before if we don't stop it" She continued as will's vision returned to the Dark Space. "Dark Gaia is at work, threatening the balance again. I must ask your help in order to retain that balance" Will was mesmerised. "So..." He said, his teeth clenched together. "History repeats itself, right ?" "Yes. The comet will return" every 800 years. I will once again need a champion to repulse it from the Earth" "Wait." He protested. "Even if I owe you my life for all these times you've saved me. Why should it be me again? I mean... I've had more than my share of adventures. All I want now is to concentrate onb finding Kara and settling down." "These things will happen when the time come. For now, I need someone, and you are fit for the task I give you. This is the last time I will need your help. If you succeed, you will be granted a peaceful life for eternity. You must understand that it is your duty as a descendant of the Knights of Darkness to protect the world and retain the balance of nature." Will turned around... paced through the room, thinking. Then he came back to Gaia. "This feels awkward, but I'll do it for you, Gaia." He paused, then the look of concern on his face turned into questioning. "So... What do I start with ?" If Gaia could have shown feelings or expression, it would have been relief "Good...Your first order of business is reuniting with Kara" Will almost jumped. "Alright !! I can do THAT !" He was feeling better. "Only with her can the firebird appear again... find her, and go to the tower of Babel. Then, I will tell you more." For the first time, he didn't feel like a puppet of the Goddess. Their goals reached the same point. All that time he just followed her instructions blindly, owing to her for her protection. Now, she asked him what he truly desired. As he left, Gaia pondered. She didn't know if Will would succeed again. All her hopes for the planet's future reposed on him. "Hmm... there will be hardships, this time. I wonder if humans are worth all this trouble"
