Credit itself has become rather superfluous, not just credit cards. The idea that you have to build credit before you can attain something of significant value (ie loans, cars, houses) makes it very difficult for younger people to get started. I mean, seriously, this is stuff they don't teach in school.
And maybe that's the problem with America? Like psychokind said, our country has such fewer regulations than, say, a European country (sorry, no examples, like I said I have little political knowledge).
But yeah, Obama more than has his work cut out for him, but after being in office for three days, he's already drastically cut Washington salaries, which is a good first step to take. I'm interested to see what steps he takes next.
Who knows? In another decade, maybe we'll actually adopt the metric system, or something? (I can dream, right?) _________________

I am pretty sure that the economic crisis is an inevitability of societies building a capitalistic empire and teaching children capitalistic ideals as if it's perfect and without flaws.
I would go into it in more detail, but I have some heavy Marxist/Socialist reading ahead of me. _________________

credit cards and ATM cards help you lose overview of how much money you actually spend or still have available...
somewhere i read the future will be a chip, implanted in your hand or somewhere, and saved on it, there is your whole life. i mean from insurance numbers to bank accounts, name, passport, ... your whole identity... sounds cool eh? well the problem is: if you start getting a problem (to the government), they simply de-activate your chip and you are as good as dead (you lost access to money, cannot visit a hospital and maybe cannot even enter your own house if your key is saved there as well) _________________

you think it's a problem to freeze your bank accounts, delete you from your insurance and change your keyholes at home while your away? it's just about law and not about technique. I hope Germany won't loosen the law for the agencys like in the usa, imagine a serious intelligence agency (unlike CIA) with those possibilities...
oh and @credit cards: they can be very useful if you travel to foreign lands and it's not the credit cards fault the people are too dumb to handle their money. if the usa adjusted their law so that people can only spend money if they have it on their bank account (like electronic cash) the problem would not have gotten this big. _________________

That's because you haven't exposed yourself to the possibility of being corrupt with power. _________________

What do you expect from petty politicians? I am pretty sure that every country, without exception, have their fair share of idiots in power.
