I actually relied quite a bit on magic in Soulblazer, when I first played it, to ensure that I killed as many enemies as I could before they could get within striking distance.
It also helps a lot whenever there might be enemies that are actually unreachable by sword - a lot like the Dark Friar in IoT, which I also sometimes used to clear the path ahead as I ran along behind it...
My first playthrough was after I had already owned IoT for about 10 years, so it looked and behaved rather more primitively than I was used to, but it was still fun. Terranigma blew me away though, by comparison to both its prequel games. ^_^ |

I do too, magic flair is quite useful.
Also, Terranigma would have done a lot better if it wasn't so damn easy. Hard hack plz! _________________

Actually I found the Light Arrow magic to be the most useful throughout the game. The fireball was okay, but as soon as I got Light Arrow, I used that exclusively almost to the end, where it was replaced by the Firebird....I mean, Phoenix magic.

Ooh, a no-XP hack sounds kind of fun - or at the least, a reduced-XP hack. |

What, so with Soulblazer that would be the Sword of Life and nothing else? (for most of the game, except that parts that require specialist higher-level blades) |

The first time I played SB? I remember it being alot of fun, but very VERY hard. I could never get past the Skull Boss on level 3...
...so I played someone else's file (it was a rental copy), and beat the Mountains and the Lab before I had to return it. _________________

I didn't play IoG until much later, I really loved Soul Blazer the first time I played through it on rental... I'm pretty sure I rented it a dozen times before the store stopped carrying Super Nintendo games and sold off the copy, and I had no idea.
The last time I had played it, I was able to get to the end of the game without dying (Still couldn't beat Deathtoll, though- facing him at level 21 is like sticking your barehand into a wood shredder). _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. Why were you facing Deathtoll without the Phoenix magic (and the Soul Blade)? It's not even possible to causd 1HP dmg to him if you don't have them, talk about a massacre! |

Deathtoll was easy to beat, the only reason i beat him on the 2nd attempt was because i was multitasjing, i was eating a sandwhich at the same time, it's hard to move and fight with only one hand... |

Finally, our hero died because he was hungry. |
