The Earth is Uninhabitable
by: Micah Rodney

Life is all about dying, and while this may seem crass,
We pray at every red light Death won't ram us in the ass.
It seems a step is wasted, when all that we do is fear,
About something that happens in large numbers every year.

Some men they claim that death is an adventure so to speak,
And that is why they're seen in all those churches every week.
Others say we're worm food and that death is not so bad,
But when they're in the Afterlife, they'll find that they've been had.

Some say to live virtuously, and on Death not to dwell,
The fact is they're afraid that if they don't they'll go to Hell.
And yet some say the dying is all part of nature's plan,
(But when there was that fire scare, they were the first who ran).

If life is wasted solely upon keeping us alive,
Then Death is a release of sorts, the goal for which we strive.
And yet for life's finale, and our ultimate conclusion,
We seem content to struggle 'gainst, a startling delusion.

Earth is uninhabitable, we know that this is so.
For everyone that comes here or is born here dies, you know.
So I will choose to live life, and ignore our cloaked friend,
Who's like that guy in theatre's that always shouts out the end.

---

Iambic Septameter (although I break a little in the second part of the fourth quatrain). Thoughts?

The fear of death - too bad, humans are the only species that knows that it's going to die sometime.
Living life is always a good thing to do, though!

Other than that, I'm not a big poetry fan.

This was sort of a tongue-in-cheek humor poem, if somewhat morbid.
