Here is my capsule review of both:
Angry Video Game Nerd
VERSUS
Zero Punctuation
1. Theme Song
AVGN: Fairly juvenille lyrics, but creative enough, especially when he remixes it for certain episodes, ala Halloween. Done by Kyle Justin Music.
Theme Song
ZP: Didn't used to have one, instead using copyrighted music, but his current theme is badass.
Theme Song
Victor: Zero Punctuation
2. Domain
AVGN: Works with Cinemassacre.
ZP: Works for Escapist Magazine.
Victor: Tie.
3. Quality of Review
AVGN: Shows detailed gameplay, almost ad nasuem.
ZP: Critiques the game without showing actual gameplay.
Victor: AVGN.
4. Humor
AVGN: Toilet humor and excessive swearing, with only a few moments of true brilliance.
ZP: Soulful wit, with a bit of brash humor, but barely noticeable amongst the awesomeness of his insults.
Victor: Zero Punctuation.
5. Episodic Nature
AVGN: Each episode is very detailed and feels more like you're watching a show than an online review. His creepy game ones are the best.
ZP: Very obvious that you're watching a review, but its so funny you can watch it as a show.
Victor: Tie.
Ultimate Victor: Zero Punctuation.

id give the prize to Zero Punctuation, mainly because ive never seen any of AVGN's videos. so its a default win. although, Zero Punctuation does kick serious ass _________________

I'd give it to AVGN, only because the games he reviews actually are bad (and often obscure), and therefore, his comments and frustrations come off as funnier (if a bit toilet-humourish).
ZP reviews big name games, and just insults them for the sake of insulting them. It's funny enough when it's a game you haven't played before ("wow, that does sound pretty bad, ha-ha funny"), but when you HAVE played it and you know just how wrong he is with how he's describing it, I'm forced to assume that he barely touched the game at all. _________________

Angry Video Game Nerd. It's funny you mentioned it like you're watching a show- I actually have this DVD, "His Name Was Jason," a documentary on the Friday the 13th series. He's actually featured in the bonus features, and talks about the game. (They have the video review for the game in the bonus features, too). He also talks about how AVGN is actually a character, not his real persona, which makes it that much cooler as to what he does.
And on the plus side, the games he does review really ARE that bad. Except Fester's Quest. I still love that game. _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. AVGN, clearly. It's good to see a show that is informative and funny. ZP, however rarely ever hits on a solid point and instead just decided to trash a game for the sake of trashing it. _________________

I'd have to say AVGN. For a few good reasons (At least I think they're good reasons)-
1. The appeal of the AVGN isn't just his humor. It's something very basic that people from our generation can relate to. Almost everyone who played games as a kid has been suckered into buying (or as he often puts it "wasting a weekend" of rental time on) a really crappy game. Probably but not necessarily a movie tie-in. So while we laugh at the idea of a grown man getting so upset and frustrated at these games, we sympathize to. And most of us have been there at one time or another.
2. He teaches a little about the history of gaming.
Sure, a lot of people think he's responsible for kids today thinking all games before the PS2 were bad. And many of them probably do focus on this idea because of him** but then if those particular kids ever played old games they'd probably think that anyway.
The Nerd tries to incorporate the history and evolution of video games into a lot of his reviews, sure these elements can be a little light, but it's undeniable he sparks new interest in long dead systems. If it wasn't for the AVGN, a lot of people wouldn't be enjoying games on ROMs or the virtual console right now. We might never have seen things like "Castle Crashers" etc.
(That piece of shit IrateGamer is the exact opposite in this of course, and he can go climb a wall of dicks.)
The good news though, is that you don't HAVE to choose between then Yahtzee has made me laugh harder than most other comedians can. And his criticism is usually (or at least often) constructive in a very humorously dark way. So it can't be said that he's *just* trying to tear games down.
They're both good.
Also- anyone who wants to laugh their ass off (and has a good sense of humor if they're a FF8 fan) should check out Spoony's reviews. They're not to be missed!
**Like 11 year olds on youtube "angrily" reviewing games older than they are. |

sorry for reviving this old one, but I just have to!
I watched all episodes of AVGN lately, and he's just so awesome... only by owning so much old console stuff you already rank in the upper 1% of important people on earth _________________

It's weird seeing my old reviews because I've found that the more I watch of AVGN and the more I watch of Zero Punctuation they're both refining their art, but I'd have to say that nowadays I'd probably give the edge to AVGN. _________________ Support me on Patreon!

AVGN,
Zero puntuation is good humor, that uses video games as a means to the end of the humor, while AVGN does actual reviews. Also I'm more interested in retro games than new stuff. _________________ http://whatlittlewisdomihave.wordpress.com/ |

since i, (shockingly enough) havn't thought about watching either of them, id say they both win and lose at the exact same same time. so that way their wins and losses will both go up one, thus rendering my vote useless |
