Okay, something you may not know about me is that my first computer was an old 386. It's OS was a very old version of DOS and my first programming language was QBASIC.

That 386 was my bitch.

I love DOS and QBASIC and spent many hours of my boyhood tricking out that crappy computer with a variety of programs. Most important were the awesome games that I managed to find.

Well I found this awesomeness called the DosBox, which allows you to emulate DOS on your fancy-pants Quad-Core Processor PC running Windows 7 Lite Trial Edition with 260 GB of Hard Disk Space and a 16 GB Ram.

I picked that up, and I also picked up an emulator of my favorite DOS game from way back in the day: BattleTech, The Crescent Hawks Revenge.

I'll edit this post with a link of where to download this DOSBOX when I'm not at work!

if you have DosBox, a few games you MUST experience are:

Golden Axe
Scorched Earth
One Must Fall
Hocus Pocus

DosBox is the only way I can play Princess Maker 2.

And Where in the USA is Carmen Sandiego.

Alas, I needed VSCUM to play Loom, but that's all right. Very Happy

Surprised
My first computer was a 486... with DOS, no harddisk, no mouse, no windows, B/W screen, 16 MB RAM, no CD drive.
(486DOSNHNMNWBW16RAMNCD)

QBasic was also my first programming language. It was almost the only thing i did in the whole day, use Qbasic and learn how to program. My more important motivation was to make games Very Happy

A game you MUST PLAY is Supaplex, I played it a lot in that computer Smile Its a clone of boulder dash, the best clone IMO.

And yeah, DOSBOX is very very useful

+1!!!!!!!!!!!

That game is so freaking awesome!!!! Very Happy

Other old favorites of mine (and the ones I currently have) are:

BattleTech:Crescent Hawks Revenge
and Hocus Pocus (obviously)

but also:

Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure -pretty fun platformer.
Hugo's House of Horror- an old-school adventure game (ala Kings Quest)
Hugo 2: Whodunit- the sequel.
Hugo 3- the sequel of the sequel.
CDMAN- a 3D pacman variant with a bit more strategy.
Elf Land- A very simple game which isn't all that good, mainly because the text boxes are unbearably long and the action is choppy.
Command And Conquer- Yep, the original PC version!

@NoZKey: My games with QBASIC were actually pretty good, if I say so myself. I made this game where you dodged falling asteroids until the screen filled up with blocks, trapping you in and killing you. Very morbid good fun! Evil or Very Mad

If you like Cosmo, you might like Elf Land. Similar gameplay style, although Cosmo is vastly superior.

Feeling out of the loop. Have no clue what you guys are talking about. I had an Apple 2 that was given to us that I futzed around with, but I had no knowledge about anything computer related until about 2001 when we got our first "Real" computer. I remember playing with this "Sam I Am" game which would "speak" whatever was typed onto the screen. It used to let you type and it would speak three curse words (Of course my being that age I found it quite amusing- my parents sure didn't). Once the three were done, that was it- Sam would speak no more.
