Actually, you can go at least 120 hours without REM sleep. Then after that you can die. A couple people in my psychology class a few semesters ago went 96 hours without sleep, which meant no REM sleep. Very Happy

I heard about one guy who stayed awake for 11 days. Eventually, they had to sedate him because he was going insane. Confused

Longest I was ever up was 2 days. Thought I would die then. I think I slept for 14 hours that night.

almost made it to three days ... caved in with only 3 hours to go ... slept for 4 hours then woke back up ... i was tired after that

I can't go more than a night without sleep. Eventually I pass out. Plus, I'm irritable as all hell. Smile

I usually only stay up when my parents are gone for the night/two nights. If my parents are gone for more than one night, I'll stay up til' it's light outside (usually around 7-8am) then I'll sleep til 3-4 in the afternoon than do it again. ^_^

I can go one day without sleep but I'm all shitty and tired during the day, maybe longer if I'm not doing anything strenuous...(however you spell that)

P.S: what's REM sleep?

More specifically, it's a very light sleep where you dream (like Joan said), and you can tell when someone is in it because their eyes will be twitching under their eyelids. Usually lasts for an hour or so before you slip in to a deeper sleep.
