While everyone who was interested waits on the second (And third) part of my Crisis saga, in the meantime I'm releasing this short story, my first (And probably only) fic for the SB/IOG/TN universe. If you haven't played SB through to the end, you may not get this. I have taken liberties (Who doesn't?) but I hope you all enjoy this.

Soul Blazer: Fallen
(Authors Note: Some dialogue and story taken from the English Version of the game known as Soul Blazer. This game is also known elsewhere as Soul Blader, and in some instances things may differ. Just wanted to clear up any potential confusion)

Love, it’s what all mankind strives to find. Love is a beautiful, wonderful thing. It can drive us to do great things, empower us to take on difficult takes. It can guide us home when we’re lost, lead us toward redemption, if redemption is needed. It can bring us through life when a sense of need, a sense of belonging.
Love is also dangerous. It can cloud judgment, lead some away from their chosen paths. Sometimes you’ll meet tragic loves- Romeo and Juliet comes to mind. There are other great loves that were simply not meant to be. I have seen such a love story. In other worlds than these, there were happy endings. They met, the boy with no name and the girl named Lisa. Together, they lived long, and fulfilling lives. Their linage would be born into the world to stop the evils that arise.
In this world, however…

The boy had fought valiantly, and now, standing outside of the that building, that crypt, he knew what he must do. The master had taught him never to fear, that he wasn’t human. He was from ABOVE, that beautiful, peaceful place. He had lived there for the entirety of his existence, which in cosmic terms, very short and almost meaningless.
He was holding the sword- it shook in hands- but not from fear. He knew no fear, after all- he was from ABOVE, the beautiful (but cold) and peaceful (but lonely) place.
What was this he was feeling now, doubt? He couldn’t- Master taught him all he needed to- that was no need for doubt, for fear, for human emotion. He was a warrior of light; he fought for the good all man.
But that wasn’t true, was it? In all his adventures, he hadn’t met someone who truly mattered to him. Not even the Master- he felt attachment, but only because the Master was his only connection to existence. Not until he came to the village of Grass Valley. He had come as a savior- had resurrected the town from under the evil grasp of Death Toll. When he saw her for the first time- it had been like a dream. Well, to be honest, it had been a dream. He’d found the Dream Rod, and touched her with it. He was drawn into her dream- she was trapped, searching for her lost father. He had awaken her. She told him to leave. When he tried, she’d stopped him.
She told him of the town, her father- all things he needed to continue and eventually complete his quest. But it seemed to pass him by. He was lost in her beauty, her perfect, flowing long blonde hair. Her stunning blue eyes, never leaving his. And even her name- Lisa. The boy with no name was lost in the magnificence that was this girl before him.
They both knew they would meet again, after all, it was destiny. Every person you meet is destined. The people you meet will shape who you are, and who you will become. When you leave this place, you will leave a being from above. Every time you return, you’ll learn a little more about the human condition. When your quest is done, you will return here a different, more knowing being than you are now.
The Master had elegance to his speech, but the boy wasn’t sure the Master truly understood humanity- at least, not the part that most affected the boy. The boy with no name couldn’t figure out what it was, even having been from ABOVE. These… feelings, these wants and desires, things he never knew before but now wished to immerse himself in.
He tried to hide it now, hold it back, but they kept rushing in at him. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Those from above- the ones away and the ones who stood by him, to help him defeat this monster- weren’t supposed to be affected, by what the Master referred to as “the human condition.” Was it true? Was the boy actually feeling human emotions? Is it possible?
He shook his head- trying in some vain attempt to rid himself of this nonsense. He was the Blazer, destined by the Master from ABOVE to defeat the monster Deathtoll. Still, the- doubts arose- what if this wasn’t his true destiny? What if his destiny was to live as a human amongst the others (Lisa)? What mattered to him didn’t matter- there would be no need for what mattered if he didn’t stop this monster once and for all. He tightened his grip on the sword, and ascended the steps to his fate.
The interior seemed crystalline, large pillars arose above him on either side. All the surfaces, floor, ceiling and even the walls seemed to be in a shiny lacquer. He continued in front of him, into a separate, barren room. When he reached the center, the wall behind him slammed shut, sealing him in the room.
The creature he’d known as Deathtoll appeared before him. It wore a purple robe, floating above him. Its’ face- if it had one, that is- was hidden under the hood, shrouded in darkness. When the creature spoke its voice seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at the same time… just like his Masters’.
“The poor creature that repeats transmigration of the soul cannot die,” it said. “I will put you in a deep sleep.”
The boy with no name raises the Soul Blade. He could feel the power surging through him, through his arms, through the sword. He almost for a second feels the creature known as Deathtoll tremble before him, but it’s only for a moment. Then the creature in the robes vanishes.
He readies the blade. This is the moment. All his training, his entire life, everything was to culminate for this moment. The master had told him it would be his destiny to defeat the creature, that he would walk amongst mankind and be their savior from this monster.
Just then, the same feeling he felt from Deathtoll he feels himself; a tremble. Why now?
Humans are beautiful creatures, the Master had once said, beautiful and dangerous. They kill for the most infinitesimal of wants and desires. They go to war over land, and harvest and destroy what they make and are given. Do not judge them for these transgressions, for that is only their nature, such as it’s the nature of a wild animal to fight and kill for its survival.
What of the girl Lisa? She had never taken a life- she wanted nothing more than to find her father, who was now gone. The boy couldn’t save him- but what if the boy couldn’t save her?
He shook his head- this wasn’t the time for this. He scanned the room- the creature Deathtoll was still invisible. He closed his eyes, and felt the room for it’s presence. There was a minor tremble, and then the feeling of air being sucked outward. He opened his eyes, and swung the sword.
There was a shriek, like bird, and the Phoenix ripped out from the air, and went forward. It struck Deathtoll just as he reappeared. The image of Deathtoll wavered for a moment, and then the robe burned away.
Now, all that was left was a skull with wings- floating in the air. The voice bellowed through the room once more. “Some people believe being constantly reincarnated means everlasting suffering. Being alive is suffering for some creatures. You will find out what I mean.”
The walls behind Deathtoll began to crack and break, the debris flying into the sky. The ground beneath the boys’ feet began to rumble, cracks breaking through the linoleum beneath his feet. The whole world began to white out, blinding the boy temporarily.
When his vision returned, the creature grew to over forty feet in height. A green crystal adorned the forehead of its skull. Both hands held to wands, both with green crystals on their tops. The creature laughed, a monstrous roar, and sounded like a lion if it were laughing.
The crystal on its forehead shimmered, it’s eyes glowed green. The two red crystals on the wands began to glow, and a beam of light fired from both of them at the boy. He ducked and dodged, and each one missed. He grasped the sword, and took another swing. Another Phoenix rose from the sword, and struck the beast. It laughed once again at him.
The ground beneath his feet began to shake. He rolled forward, just before a pillar of blue fire rose from the ground. Another one rose right in front of his face, missing him by inches.
It’s the same color as his eyes, the boy thought, and that momentary thought may have changed history entirely.
A third pillar rose, knocking the Soul Blade out of the boys’ hand. Another rises behind him, cutting him along his back. He tripped forward, and looked up at Deathtoll. The bastard creature was smiling at him, just as he fired two more beams of light at the boy. The first struck him in the left shoulder, and passed right through him. The second struck him in the chest, and passed through his heart.
The boy dropped to his knees. His one arm hung limp, while the other tried to reach for the Soul Blade. He felt the ground beneath him shake once more. He did not think of the Master, the world he was destined to save… only her face. Only Lisa came to his mind, and, more than he wanted to save the world, he wanted to see her one last time, to touch her, to tell her what was in her heart. I’m sorry, he thinks now, I’ve failed.
Just as these thoughts came, another pillar rose from the ground, piercing the boy through his chest. It lifted him into the air, so Deathtoll could laugh that horrible monstrous laugh.
As the he drew the last few breaths of his life, he heard his Master’s voice in his head. You did all you could to close this world of Evil… it just wasn’t enough.
As he crossed into the darkness of Oblivion, his final thought was of her, standing on a hill, looking up into the sky. Her eyes closed, and a small smile came over her face. Everything around her darkened, and she faded into the darkness.
“Lisa,” he speaks, as the darkness overcomes him. A hero has fallen.

Grass Valley at sunset… The glistening ocean… the restored world was beautiful. All the creatures stopped and looked at the beauty of the sunset. One was with his child, and one was with his friend, creatures were in awe of the scenery.
Suddenly a ray of black light shot into the sky. However, no one noticed it.
Lisa was standing all by herself. She used to feel lonely when she saw the sunset, but now, she thinks it’s beautiful. Just like her father changed the impossible to possible, Lisa feels she will be happy if she believes…
She closes her eyes. The sun disappears into the distant horizon. The moon turns black, and the world once more is swallowed into darkness. Lisa opens her eyes to see the monster Deathtoll rising into the sky.
“No,” is the only thing she has time to say, before the darkness takes her as well.

The End?

Some trivia about this story

-I originally intended on including the aftermath, including the destruction of Oceania, Greenwood, ect. However, after a long consideration, I opted to leave it out, as I felt it would be too long. I may eventually revise and expand the story, but for now, this is it.

-I intended to include a vague reference that meant to refer to that fact that the Blazer and Lisa's offspring would eventually lead to the birth of Will and possibly Ark.

-The only tiem the Blazer ever speaks is when he said the word "Lisa."

-This may or may not tie into the Crisis storyline. I won't give any other details away on that.
