Has there ever been anything that you found enjoyable, but then a certain point came along that completely ruined it for you?

I used to watch Family Guy at least somewhat regularly. It was always crude humour, but at least they were pushing a few boundaries that most animated shows weren't. Then, I realized that it really isn't particularly funny. The same handful of overly long jokes (the repeated cutaways to Conway Twitty singing isn't amusing), along with the massive character derailment and Seth McFarlane's political views made the show unwatchable. Now, I can't (and won't) sit through an episode.

I also used to watch Foamy the Squirrel's cartoons. They used to be enjoyable, usually not about much in particular. A rant about this, a commentary on that, and Mathers (the creator) was able to put some humour in to mundane situations like waiting in line at the post office, or someone being too lazy to get out of bed. But over the last few months, it's become clear that he's more interested in drawing porn than in humour. A rather large number of cartoons have Germaine (the 'goth chick') getting jizzed on, either for real, or in some simulated way. Tits and ass are nicely exaggerated, usually with her in panties. Then he calls it 'character development', and 'subtle symbolism', and posts an additional cartoon on the front page to walk people through the 'character development', in which he flat out declares that if you don't get it, if you can't accept 'character development' in a cartoon, you're a retard.

The self-congratulatory tone for his own genius and bullshit condescension is nauseating. I find it odd that he'll go to such great lengths to show how awesome and realistic his character development is, and how it's representative of reality when the star of the series is a talking squirrel. I watch cartoons to be entertained, not preached to about how 'perverted society is'. And I certainly won't be preached to by an arrogant, self-aggrandizing prick who thinks his word on anything is the only one we should all listen to.

I can't bring myself to watch either of those any more. Which is a shame, because I genuinely enjoyed them at first.

I loved the old Family Guy. You know, back when it was a parody of American sitcoms instead of a cesspool of "...like that one time"s and other terrible jokes. I'll admit, it still makes me laugh at points, but never because its clever. I only watch the first three seasons cause only those were good.

And yeah, Foamy has gone downhill. I realize what he's trying to do, but he's exhausting too much energy into a single idea.

There's a lot of anime and manga that are like that for me. In particular Death Note and D.Gray Man. I get sick and tired of hearing about it and it just makes me angry and less likely to read/watch it in general.

Foamy was my internet cartoon of choice, but I only watched up to around episode 100. After that, I feel they're starting to lose their touch.

The last good one, in my opinion, was CDs.

Well, everything always seems to roll downhill, no matter how good it starts out.

Like with spongebob, never really liked it but thought it was okay. In the newer episodes it seems to make no sense (in a bad way), have no meaning, and everyone's just yelling. You know a comedy has died when that happens.

I think popularity kills anything good. The bigger something is, the less they try to be original and the more they try to conform to what they are as opposed to working to be what they could be.

That's why I still love Smallville and Supernatural- both shows have dipped in viewership, and both have gotten better because of it. They have to try harder to get back some of that audience- and focus on story instead of special effects. SV is going into season 10, and the show has been on a steady rise in content from season 6, and Supernatural has been an awesome show since it started.

Thats why I love this series too- it hasn't been forced into the mainstream, forced into our heads as the best thing ever.

I keep missing the episodes of Smallville that are currently airing on Channel 4 (UK), so I catch 'em when the DVD boxsets drop in price a bit, instead. Smile

Season 5 was kind of hard to get past, especially with Jonathan's death. I personally feel the show has gotten better. Justice League in season 6 (Feat. returning heroes Cyborg, Aquaman, and Impulse aka Kid Flash/Bart Allen. Also, they had a in season 6 Green Arrow, who was a rather interesting character)

Season seven kind of fell off a bit. Lex's "Decent" into evil was quite shocking (Fans of the show will get the pun), but they introduced a subplot involving Lionel called "Veritas" that kind of seemed rushed and retconned some of the events of the earlier seasons. They also introduced a new interpretation of Bizarro that was pretty cool.

Season 8 featured the Legion of Superheroes, heroes from 1000 years into the future. That was cool. The main villians of season 8 were Tess Mercer (mixtured of Ms. Tessmacher from the superman films and Mercy Graves from the comics and cartoons) Doomsdays introduction was awesome, but the final fight was a huge let down.

9 started off cool; Clark took on the mantle of a superhero. He began wearing the famous S- albeit with a darker costume. Season 9 featured the Justice Society; Hawkman, Stargirl and Dr. Fate (the last being probably one of the coolest comic characters ever done live action)

Clark took on a younger version of General Zod, before he becomes totally evil and all villiany, as well as 200 resurrected Kryptonians. Season 9 may have featured one of the best season finales ever, including a glimpse into the future, the introduction of his suit, and a final fight that ends with one hell of a cliffhanger.

The show went from being, as a comic fan best put it, "a show about a boy who becomes Superman to the DC universe on TV."

I used to like family guy ok. But then I saw an episode yesterday (please don't ask me which it is least I inadvertently advertise it and lead to another penny in Mcfarlan's purse) that was a barely disguised ignorant 20 minute attack on a group of people who already have to put up with enough violence and hatred due to the false ideas and assumptions the episode helped propagate.
With this and the battered women episode of american dad (which also propagated harmful misunderstandings and stereotypes) I believe I'm just going to wash my hands of Seth Mcfarlan period.

I was a devoted fan of the "Sonic the Hedgehog" comic book published by Archie from when I was a young kid until the new writer came in and changed everything that made it good. And I mean everything.
Dumbing down characterization and storylines to appeal to the lowest common denominator and wiping away years of character development. Replacing complex and interesting characters and situations with punch'n judy fistfights every issue with no drama or tension. The art now sucks to since it has to conform to a rubber-hose cartoony style.

Other than that um, I used to watch stuff on Homestarrunner but I don't really hate it now, it just got boring.
