I love how this went from a weird work shift thread to crappy vampire novels/movies. sorry Jase, par for the course on TE I guess. |
If you ain't down with thread hijacking, I got two words for you: TerraEarth logic. No need to make a new topic to discuss something when you can steal someone elses thunder.
That said, finally time for me to discuss my weird work shifts.
I've worked 10PM to 6AM, 9:15PM to 7am (My current shift), 8AM to 4PM, come back in at 10PM and work til 3AM. 4PM to 12AM (sometimes 1). Longest shifts were 10PM to 11AM, and 9:10PM to 8:40AM (this was two weeks ago).
My shortest "scheduled" shift? (As in I didn't leave sick or something or was sent home) 10PM to 10:50PM. I had fifty mintues before I would go into"overtime"(Over forty hours) and my relief wanted to sleep in for an extra hour, so he told me to come in for fifty minutes just to cover him. Nice, huh? _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. Those are brutally long overnight shifts - how do you keep yourself standing? _________________

I also actually forgot to mention something else. I was working at the game store Saturdays and Sundays. Saturday would consist of getting there at 10AM and working until 9PM. Get home, go to to sleep, be back at the store at 11, work until 8:30PM, go into my actual job 9:15PM to 7AM, once staying until 8:30AM. Totally forgot about the day. Doubt my coworkers did I was a real asshole to be around.
The truth is... sometimes you have the mental will to get through it, and some other times you just can't. Sometimes I would be dozing off on my feet. Or catch a nap in the breakroom. Or a five hour energy. Gotta make that bank. You body naturally wants to be up during the day, and there are sometimes I'll go a months of being on a solid sleep schedule... and then there are times I throw it off ever so slightly, and then it weeks before I can get back to normal. Overnight work is brutal at times, anyone whose done it can attest to that. _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it.
