so for some years i've been watcging US tv shows a lot. i don't know how i got to it, but i never thought there were actually really good tv shows existing.

since then i watched breaking bad, the wire, sons of anarchy, the tudors, viking, boardwalk empire, last week i finished the sopranos and started mad men.

i'm surprised time and time again how much thought went into story and character developement (except for viking Very Happy ). after the wire i thought this is it, but the sopranos marked another highlight and truely deserve to be "the best series ever made".

is anybody else watching these "drama" series? it really restored a lot of my faith in western tv art, considering how hard it has become to sell storyheavy movies (at least that's what i think).

I've not watched any of those, but I've heard so many good things about Breaking Bad, and I know a few people who really enjoy Sons of Anarchy.

Another incredibly solid show that I'm watching right now is Ray Donovan. The story is solid, the cast is very good (We got Liev Schriber, Jon Voight, and James Woods- on a TV show) and the twists and turns are just insane.

Dexter was very good... up until the end of the forth season. The series is coming to end next Sunday, but I say watch the first four seasons and you can kind of skip the rest- the series unfortunately went down hill from there.

I know a lot of people actually hated the ending to The Sopranos... I personally didn't watch it, but someone sent me a video showing what the ending actually meant... and it was very interesting to see someone's take on it.

Another show that I still say is very underrated is The Shield, which aired on FX between 2001-2007. It's a very solid show, and a lot of the "Dramatic" series that have come since, like Breaking Bad and SoA, owe themselves to the risks The Shield took. I would also go out on a limb and say the final episode is one of the best pieces of television I have ever seen in my life. I would definitely say it would be worth your time to watch this as well if you are so inclined.

the shield is on my list! the sopranos ending is a bit controversial. but i like it that way, and i'm sure the only other option than leaving with an "open end" was to kill tony soprano.

he is an evil person, and the show never showed the civilists taken damage by his doings. it left more with a feeling of the mob being some sort of quirky guys doing crook things. showing him dying of age or sth would have been way to immoral for the audience. that's why i hoped for an open end rather than "he gets what he deserved" thing.

ps: that's why the death note ending sucks Very Happy

-Possible spoiler, read own risk- Well the video I saw about the ending pretty much suggests that he did, in fact, die. Every time they cut to a member of his family coming in, it cuts to Tony's Point of view looking at the door. The guys that comes in behind his son, for whatever reason, the camera follows him a little too much, and he goes into the bathroom, just behind Tony's line of sight.

The suggestion is, the reason it goes to black screen, is because when his daughter came in, we hear the bell, and when it should've cut to Tony's POV, he was actually shot in the head by the man that went into the bathroom- just out of his line of sight. His death was instantaneous, thus why the music abruptly ends and it cuts to a black screen. Just one idea out of many, though.

-End of "possible" spoiler-

I will say it's worth it to stick it out through the entire run of The Shield. There are a few parts that kind of trail off- mostly in the third season- but after that everything is very solid. Every series has a few missteps and unexplained character absences, so I was very forgiving of the issues with the show given how good it was otherwise.

When you get around to watching it, let me know what you think.
