So I just got a phone call from some guy. He asked if we sell video games. After telling yes, we are a game store and we do, in fact, sell video games, he asked me if I had Pokemon X or Y for sale. Since it's October 8th, I tell him no, we don't currently have it for sale just yet since it doesn't release until the 12th. He asks if I could sell him one anyway.
I tell him we haven't even gotten the shipment yet. He asks "Well when you do can you sell me one?" I tell him realistically no, since we're probably not going to receive them until the release date. He keeps asking if I would personally sell him one, essentially asking me to break street day.
I repeatedly tell him no, that's not something I can or even would do. He then offers me a hundred bucks if he can get it early. I tell him sorry, there really is nothing I can do for him, and then he then proceeds to ask me if there is someone else that works here that would. I joking said "call back in a few days. Maybe someone else would be willing to help you out or something."
Anyone else ever have this happen to them? From the guy's pushy nature it didn't seem like a normal customer- I got the feeling that it might have been someone trying to see if we'd break street date. I know the fine is hefty so I'm not about to go to jail over a Pokemon game.
I've known a few people who've gotten games before release, in fact there is a place a few towns away that will break street for five bucks over sale price the day before as a convenience fee. Anyone whose worked at a game store ever experience anything like this? _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. I haven't personally been part of something like this, but one of my friends managed to get a MtG Duel Deck 2 days before release once. He ended up showing it off to someone at another store, and the first store got a call from their local WotC representative telling them that if it happens again, things would get sticky.
All in all, I don't see why people can't just have patience. _________________

We don't sell new games, so, yeah. We just get a lot of calls asking about pre-orders and release dates, and we get to let them down. _________________
