I could use your help. My sister asked me to find a handheld console for her youngest son ( 4 years old) to avoid fights over 12 years old half-brother's NDS XL. She want a Nintendo DS Lite or GBA SP for him so he can play games with simple controls. I wouldn't get something designed in clamshell form would break by accident. 2D is my choice but it won't accept GBA paks or too complicated for a young kid. So I'm looking for a custom or clone handheld console capable of playing storaged ROMs (NES, SNES, and GBA) I can dl. K1 GBA SP is what I like but not the clamshell form.

If you have something in mind, share it here. I prefer the sources in USA, not overseas for few reasons. I would buy few for the boys, maybe for myself.

Oh yea. Faster I find a right console, I can get my GBA library and Golden Zelda DS Lite back. I'm pretty picky with my games. :/

Edit: This is handheld console what I wanted but not the price in my mind. I'll keep searching the Internet.

Edit 2: PSP with a custom firmware. Used PSP is enough good. Have to research on the custom firmwares.

Wouldn't any smartphone/tablet be sufficient for snes/gba/nes? Or is it because of the bad controls?

It would be good choice if I configure the android os to kid version. I don't want the boys access to the freemium apps with IAPs or anything nasty from app stores. I just want something easy to hold on.

Doing a bit of plugging here, but eStarland might have something used? They also apparently have an actual retail location in Virginia (Chantilly? I think? That's what google tells me) and I've ordered through them before, as has SBiF. Good company and they might have something you can get there.

Well I guess that shouldn't be too hard? My phone even has a childrens mode pre-installed (htc m9).

I should have added that a touch screen device is ok for RPG's, but not fighting games and jumpnruns though Very Happy

Good source. It only sell vanilla systems. I am looking for a handheld system capable of running ROMs instead of reply on the cartridges. I would go for Nintendo 2D but getting games from eShop would be a problem. eShop isn't where what I like most, still far from Steam's. Its search engine is difficult to work with.

I maybe set with K1 GBA SP. Reasonable price and no losses if anything happened to the system. I experienced a big loss on my first Nintendo 3DS along with 3DS library. Not going let it again.

I had a friend hack my psp 3000 a few years back. It was tricky but it did the job. I was not disappointed
