Christmas! It's actually still like 2 and a half months away, though you might be forgiven for thinking it's sooner, given Christmassy stuff is appearing in some stores already (ours got mince pies and Xmas puds from October 1).

So, quick question...what's the centrepiece of your Christmas dinner?

I believe we used to have chicken for Christmas dinner when we were younger (UK here), though I notice turkey has become a lot more common in the last couple of decades. Is this being influenced by the USA?

Yes, I realise there's a meat poll out today, but this just came to mind and I'm curious, so why not? Smile

Sometimes it's red meat (prime rib or the like) but 98% of the time my family's Christmas dinner is ham. Best dinner to be honest.

Ham classes as a red meat too, though, doesn't it? Smile

We do not do a Christmas Dinner in my family. My dad actually started a family tradition we observe every year (it's a recent tradition, but it's a tradition nonetheless).

Christmas Breakfast!

The idea is because my mom and dad would stay up all night wrapping presents and setting up this amazing christmas day for the kids, my dad wanted to give her a full breakfast (And by extension the five of us, yes there were five kids).

So we've done that ever since. Christmas Breakfast usually has scrambled eggs, bacon and toast and, when we are able, pancakes, orange juice and my dad does scrapple but that can go die in a fire. Very Happy

So, uh, I guess the centerpiece for our Breakfast is eggs!

K...inda? I mean the colour of it is, but it's pork so it's white... but... yeah. It's confusing.

it's a bit weird, but my wife and I spend christmas eve seperate. my wifes family has a very long evening, from 7 pm to about 1 pm. my family has a short christmas, we eat and give each other presents and that's about it. I go drinking with all the friends of my hometown since I'm 13. it's one of my biggest boozing of the year actually, I get totally hammered. this tradition has died off a bit since our regular pubs bartender died (shot in afghanistan during the war as a tourist Confused ).

we then spend the 25th and the 26th at each others parents. maybe we have our first big christmas with both families in our new house this year, who knows Smile

that being said:
24th: my brother decides what's for dinner, he was trained a cook before becoming a food engineer. it's a surprise so I can't tell what it's going to be Crying or Very sad

25th/26th: one of these days my mother will cook, she's a teacher for domestic economy. I have to admit I'm pretty fortunate with food servings in my family Very Happy
the other day my father-in-law is cooking. he cooks only on christmas, not another day during the year. he's always cooking a stuffed turkey in beer sauce. pretty good I have to admit!

I think all meat from pigs comes under the category of red meat.

Or I'm maybe just weird? (don't answer that Razz)

I've never had a "Christmas Dinner". I just eat whatever.

In 2015, my family, who live in another state, came and visited me on Christmas Eve, so I made tacos for everyone. It was wonderful.
