I'm going to try this and see what I can keep up with, give a brief spoiler free review and rating at the top.
Super Mario Galaxy Movie 5/10
Best review I heard was heavy on references and nostalgia, heavy on plot points, very little plot. I found enjoyment only from watching my daughters reaction to everything, her first ever movie in a theater.
Timecut (Netflix) 4/10
A girl travels back in time accidentally to the days leading up to her own sisters murder. She must decide between maintaining the timeline or saving her sister from a serial killer... or saving herself.
A lot of the choices and decisions don't really work, and the killer reveal wasn't that great.
I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025- 4/10
I wouldn't call the original two films great cinema but they were serviceable 90s slasher fare. This won felt hollow, a too late follow up to a franchise that hadn't had a theatrical movie in decades. Following the requel trend of doing a late stage sequel, it muddles along until a killer reveal that wasn't remotely interesting and does more harm than good to the remaining legacy cast.
Scream 7- 5.5/10
I was starting to enjoy this movie a little bit. The best parts of these movies are the big reveals at the end, but sadly this one loses all gas at the reveal that just felt unearned. Neve Campbell famously turned down the offer for Scream 6 due to pat disputes, and honestly her return here is damaged by the fact that this is without a doubt the weakest entry in the long running franchise.
Stranger Things Tales From 85- Season 1 6/10
For the most part the new voice actors sound close to their original series counterparts. They introduce some new characters who are never mentioned again in the parent show, so their non mentions kind of kills any danger. Also, since this show is set during the series proper, it's hard to worry about our lead characters since we know they're not in any real danger. IMO it should have been set in a different town with different kids in a similar situation. Missed opportunity with the expanded media here.
Daredevil Born Again Season 2 7/10
There was a lot I liked about this season. But the ending felt rushed and unearned. Character motivations at times didn't make sense. Things and characters from the prior messy 1st season weren't followed up on. Special mention to Tony Sporano actor James Galdolfini sons, Michael, who turns in an MVP performance in this season.
Scrubs Season 10 8/10
I was a fan of the original show, and was disappointed in the 9th season that was meant to be a spin off, and instead came back as a season of the main show.
When the revival season was announced, I was skeptical but I do have to say, it very much felt like an appropriate update of the original. The characters felt lived in within their world, the comedy, old and new cast all worked well within the confines if the original established tone while being able to update it to a modern setting. It was like visiting friends from your past and being able to catch up. A lot of the complaints I heard around this was that it was too much like the original series, but that's okay. Some media can be like a comfort blanket and should be allowed to be familiar. You shouldn't come in with a hacksaw and make something that isn't honest to the original source material.
Anyone else got recent TV or movies they've seen? Shout them out below. _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. The most recent media I've watched was Kill la Kill with my sweetheart. _________________
