Now that I think about it, GRB's aren't really random occurences. I mean, we all pretty much agree they have something to do with the collapse of giant stars and we can predict a star's collapse before it happens so I doubt we will experience something like that soon.

Maybe a gamma ray burst is God 'wiping the palette clean'. Since God is a creator, and alot of us believe he will eventually destroy us, maybe he is destroying other races he created with each one.

After all, I don't believe he stopped creating once we came to be, so it might work. Maybe after we have experienced the end times and everyone is 'where they should be', he will wipe out Earth and start a new race there. But it wouldn't necessarily be a rare thing. I mean, if it happened to us, why not happen to other races he created?
