From the other gaming forums, I heard some PS2 owners run into problem with PS2's reading lasers or other different parts such as heat. Did you run into problem like what I said? I still aware of slim PS2's lacking of cooling or roomful size may lead to overheating....enough to burn out the parts and cds.
I could tell it from PS2's tiny fan....
As for first model PS2, my nephew had used one but it still work like new brand one.

I'm not sure if Sony had those problems sort out. Or are they rushing their products too much just like japanese PSP consoles?

I hope my slim PS2 run smooth and warranty hold up enough until GameStop start trade-in deal for PS3.

One more thing, could we refer slim PS2 as 'PStwo'?

Occasionally my PS2 will scream at me when I try to play games with a blue bottom instead of the silvery CD bottom (if that makes sense). That and it won't read some of my DVD's (my first DVD of Excel Saga is a good example, it'll read everything BUT the first part before the opening theme on episode 4). I don't think I've had any problems other than those two.. but I have the old version of the PS2, so... I dunno what problems you might get with the slim box.

I pick a rumor from guy, from other forums, said that he ask store geek about slim PS2 problems but he dont say anything...btw, he did heard about japanese PS2 turn in with defective lasers and Sony had them recall for repair or upgrades (I'm not sure).

You mean PS1 games with black or blue bottom? I know what you talking about.

I'm not use mine to play DVDs since I got DVD player and a drive right in my computer. They're SOOOOO cheap but good!

Rainichan, you play old PS1 games on PS2? I tired to play three PS1 games ,I bought long time ago, on my PS2 but it ask me for PS1 memory card. Where I could find specified memory card to use with PS1 games? Old PS1 ones? I'm not sure if GameStop carry those old ones. I use Datel's 32MB memory card for PS2.

No, the PS2 has games that have the dark blue bottom (Taiko Drum Master and Okage: Shadow King are two PS2 games that have the dark blue bottom that I own). And yeah, you'd have to have a PS1 memory card to play old PS1 games with. GameStop should have some used PS1 memory cards, and so should EB. Very Happy

oh yeah
games with blue bottoms, make a huge whizzing sound, which kinda scary because you think the PS2 is just grinding away at your game

PS2 has had a number of reports of disc-reading problems. They've had complaints of buggy hardware that breaks down too fast.

I'm not sure if you could get it replaced or not. Confused

YES x.x I always freaked out when I played Okage, I thought my PS2 was gonna do a mini lift-off into space. But to minimize that, I found out that if you put regular scotch tape around the hole in the middle of the CD (on all four sides) it'll make that sound go away. Found it on GameFAQ's, as it's hard to describe here. Good luck finding it. Very Happy

I'm on my third Ps2. My first two had the same problem the disk read error whenever the game was perfectly fine. Even my new Ps2 won't read the blue disks. Well I got it to work once with a similar trick that rainichan suggested but I used masking tape.

here's the part just about the tape
Quote:

4.4 - SCOTCH TAPE METHOD
Cost efficiency - 5/5
Convenience - 5/5
Effectiveness - 2/5

Tools you will need:
1. The problematic disc.
2. Scotch tape.

This was the trick that personally fixed all of my problem discs.

I first heard of this trick in the September 2002 issue of GamePro. In every
issue of GamePro, they have a one-page section called "Buyers Beware", which is
a Q&A section where readers write in if they're having a problem with their
games. As you might expect, a common problem in previous issues of GamePro has
been the PS2's Disc Read Error. But in this issue, a reader named "Jim M."
wrote the following letter to Buyer's Beware.

Jim's tactic involved placing scotch tape on the face of the actual discs. By
taking two 1-inch long pieces of scotch tape and putting them on opposite sides
of the CD (as close to the CD hole as possible), the PS2 suddenly has an easier
time reading discs. How is this possible, you ask? The disc is using the two
symmetric pieces of tape to balance itself on the laser, making the disc easier
to be read by the laser. According to Jim, an offset of balance on the disc
can occur when dust builds on the magnetic rubber device that holds the disc in
place. The tape fixes this.

However, this trick didn't work for me...right away. After pondering for
awhile, I took Jim's tactic one step further, and added TWO MORE strips of tape
onto the two sides of the disc that previously had no tape on them. Lo and
behold, it works! These two new strips of tape should still be 1-inch long and
should still be as close to the CD hole as possible.

I understand that these instructions may be confusing, without a diagram, so I
made a little picture that will hopefully explain it better, which can be
viewed at www.geocities.com/sonicquestcomic/ps2tapemethod.bmp.

While this trick definitely worked for me, it doesn't work for everyone.
Namely, I've heard that this trick only works for CD-based media, and not
DVD-based media.

That's what I did for my Taiko Drum game ^^ Still have yet to do it with my Okage game though.
