Something came to me last night, while I was thinking about this particular topic. Something hasn't really bothered me this much in a long while, and it really got me thinking. I was able to finally simplify everything I said above;
Gaming is no longer about invention; it's all about convention.
Basically, staying with what works and forgetting about anything new or anything original. I went into it enough above, so I'll leave this little nugget for some food for thought.
I actually got to play the Resident Evil 5 demo... and it failed to me miserably. It played, EXACTLY, like Resident Evil 4... once again, convention taking over rather than invention. _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. While I do support the notion of not trying to "fix" what isn't broken. I also think that doing the same thing over and over again without any variation is a poor and lazy design philosophy. _________________
