yea something like that... pretty much compareable to the status-message you leave at myspace, facebook and so forth...

I have no idea why it's so popular. I have a blog (livejournal), but that's an actual diary. Twitter is basically a mini blog where you write really short posts.
I may be stupid, but I don't get why people use it or like it, lol.
I suppose it's addicting.

pretty much the same question why you use SMS 
via twitter you can update your current status and tell other people whats going on around you (as i said before, inform them about news and so forth)
