But why keep hold of the IP if they're not *doing* anything with it, nor planning to *ever* do anything with it? They might as well sell it and make some cash, then hold onto it and get nothing squared for the rest of time.
Of course, I'm thinking about it logically, which is where I went wrong. |
Well, because they are money-men. If someone was interested in buying it, it would show them there is potential interest in the franchise. They would want to make money off it if they could. Perhaps they do have a plan for resurrecting the franchise in some way- who knows.
But, other than us die-hards, who would want to purchase the IP anyway? _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. To sum it up, YETI: Royalties. _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

Royalties off a game that 95% of the people playing it today are playing illegally on ROMs?
If I was a filmmaker, I'd love to turn the trilogy into a set of films. Especially Soul Blazer. _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. Yeah, that's true I guess, but there are lots of time when fans show an interest in getting a property released, but the IP owners say "No way, it's not economically viable to do it", because the number of people who show interest are just way to small. That, unfortunately, is where we are.
And yeah, how could they still be getting any royalties off the Soulblazer trilogy? All the people who play these games are either buying it secondhand off eBay (and secondhand purchases never attract any royalties), or as Soulblazerfan pointed out, otherwise downloading illegal ROM file copies.
Films of the trilogy? That would be so fucking awesome.... But SBF, anyone can be a filmmaker, if you can get the backing and have a good enough idea (and the Soulblazer trilogy IS more than a good enough idea. ^_^). Get a camera and start filming! ^___~ _________________
