So I was listening to the radio at work, and heard something that reeked of stupid-osity. So I thought I'd start this thread for anyone with a story that elicited a disbelieving shake of the head.
Tim Horton's (the largest coffee and donut chain in Canada, for anyone unaware) is currently holding a fundraiser; they're generating money to fund programs in order to teach children about nutrition.
So how are they raising these funds? Raffles? Contests? Charity donations?
Well, not really. They're selling cookies.
Yes, the current promotion is that they're selling huge-ass cookies for $1.00 each, with the proceeds funding nutrition programs.
Am I the only one that sees a problem with this? Now, there'll be a bunch of little fat kids buying a shitload of cookies for cheap, just so Tim Horton's can afford to tell them that cookies are bad for them.
They're 'chocolate chunk' cookies, incidentally. With icing, too. So they're not even "healthier" cookies, like oatmeal or something. Just cookies full of sugar, covered in more sugar.
Promoting nutrition through encouraging diabetes =

The second story is a quick one, and deserves only a passing mention. It was a commercial for hearing aids and hearing tests; played on the radio.
Right up there with putting ads for literacy programs in the newspaper. _________________

That's freaking awesome. You gotta wonder if the irony was intentional. _________________
