so, I'm just home from a funeral of my birth-buddys father. he was a bit younger than my own father and I knew him all my life. he died of asbestos caused lungcancer and left 4 children and his wife.

this was my first funeral in an age where I can seriously think about something like that.

I wanted to ask you if you have lost relatives or people you knew very well yet, and what your feelings were?

I felt kind of angry and frightened. angry about myself, because I didn't feel a glimpse of sorrow in me, and frightened because I thought that maybe I might feel nothing if a good friend of mine or a near relative dies.

My step-grandfather died when I was ~ 4 years old. It was always nice when we drove around in his car, but when he died, I wasn't sad at all, I simply thought "he was ill, and he was old, so it's ok I think"

But years later I started to miss him, quite alot, and now I think about how hard it must have been for my grandma...

It always differs from person to person how you deal with the death of someone you know, I think it "would" touch me deep...

My Grandpa died about 3 weeks ago. It was the first time a relative close to me died that that I was old enough to remember.

It was really weird. i was only really sad at the funeral. Now its just kind of weird to think that hes gone

One of my aunts died a few months ago. Cancer.

Of course, the whole family didn't take it well, but some took it better than others. I was one of them.

Everyone knew she would die soon, including her. We even had a large family gathering for her a few months before she died, because she wanted everyone to gather and spend the evening together while she was still in good shape. I guess that's how she wanted everyone to remember her. It was the last time I saw her, and so it's my last memory of her.

When she did die, I didn't take it quite as hard as her immediate family, first because they were her immediate family... she and I were extended family... but also because I knew it would happen any time soon. When it did, I wasn't shocked.

My grandma isn't in great health these days either; I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we get some unfortunate news about her in the near future.

ive had a great aunt and a grandma die. since my grandma lived in russia, i didnt know her well enough (i left when i was 3). my great aunt (grandma's sister) also died close to when my grandma died... i knew her better than i knew my grandma, but i still accepted the fact that she's gone a lot quicker than i thought normal.

i completely agree with psychokind, i kinda feel the same. annoyed at myself, and afraid that i might just be that insensitive to something that serious. when my grandma died, my parents (specially dad, she was his mother) were rather distraught, yet i didnt feel anything. the worst thing in the matter was that my parents being upset saddened me more than my grandma's death.

thinking about it, i would be a lot more affected by the death of someone close to me (friends, family). but past experiences with the matter show that at the moment, im in almost complete agreement with psychokind.

I'm usually really weird when it comes to death. The only one that has really affected me was when I was younger was my grandmother, and when our old dog died a few years ago, but most deaths I don't really... have an emotion? It sounds really terrible of me, when I can sit through funerals without really getting upset and crying (when everyone else is), though I feel saddened.

Though, recently, one of my coworkers died (on December 31) and I worked with her personally, seeing as how she was in my department at work, and she covered the second shift on the weekends. It was weird being at her funeral, and seeing even some of my other coworkers bawling and me just sort of indifferent.

I feel like a heartless bitch for that Sad But I don't usually show an outward emotion at something like that.

okay let's start the counting shall we?

my father
2 grandfathers
2 uncles
1 aunt

I'm no emotional person so losing them didn't make me sad, just felt kinda weird that they were gone all of a sudden. I guess if people keep dying around you, you somehow get used to the fact that everyones life comes to an end sometime and someplace. This may sound heartless, but that's how I am.

i never got to know my real grandpas and my granny died in 2006, 2 days after moms birthday (it was her mother) ... well i also didnt feel any sorrow but this has to do with something i "trained" and i call it "let it go"
i was pretty close to her, so it wasnt that i didnt care, it was just obvious that it would happen today or tomorrow...
strange thing was: i was the only one in the room (at the hospital, when we were standing around the bed she died in) who didnt cry and it was the first time i saw a corpse...

I haven't had it happen to me yet so I cannot sympathize too well. What I do know is that the pain of bereavement has this bad habit of kicking in days, even weeks after the event when people start to really miss their loved ones.

oh my thank you Smile

yeah, she's some beauty, I'm still quite dizzy because I did not imagine to spend the night with such a good loking girl. the first girl that kissed me yesterday was already quite handsome, and it's a shame that I was so drunk that I don't remember what methods I used to be succesfull in quantity and quality Laughing
