I also think penises have the advantage in terms of hygiene; its easier to keep a penis clean than a vag with the blood and funky smells and stuff. Additionally, it is cheaper to care for a penis because you don't have to buy pads for it and stuff; another advantage during these tough economic times!

So technically, couldn't scientists just remove half the DNA from any random cell from a male, and it would then to all intents and purposes be a sperm cell?

Physically removing the DNA wouldn't work, you'd likely mess up the chromosomes and whatnot. Our bodies are programmed to split our genes properly as it is.

There is a method being researched called 'somatic cell haploidization', which is where they make a regular cell go through the same process as a sex cell (to turn it in to one). It's being looked at as the ultimate solution to infertility.

In that case, both the dick and the vag could be obsolete, yes. Especially with the ability to 'grow' a kid in a laboratory (unnatural as that sounds). With that in mind, the argument is moot... neither is better than the other.

Penes combine the reproductive organ with waste expulsion capabilities, whereas a lady's equivalent, the clit, is entirely 100% for the purposes of pleasure.
