Were it possible (and this is assuming you are in perfect health and don't have a terminal disease with a set time) would you rather know exactly what day you were going to die or to let it remain a mystery? Also on that last day would you treat it spectacularily or run it as just an ordinary day?

For me, I would hate to know exactly when I was going to die. The great thing about life is that we feel like we have all the time in the world to do what we need/want to do. And if I knew when my life was going to end, I would drive myself crazy trying to pack everything into the last years.

depends mainly on how young I'd be. in any way, I wanted to know the date. if I'm young, I'd party the last 5 years, if I was old, I'd just live normally. maybe I'd kill some people I hate in the last couple of days.

Actually, since I don't believe in fate I'd want to know. Better yet, I'd want to know how. If it's some punk ass death, I'd totally the day before do some crazy heroic think. Or rob a bank. Very Happy

I wouldn't want to know when it's coming. How could you enjoy the remainder of your life if you're left waiting for the end? I won't count down the days until death comes.

With that in mind, if it ever comes down to me having some terminal disease that's going to kill me in a hospital over a few weeks or months, I'm offing myself some other way. When I die, it won't be in a hospital bed after disease has claimed me, it'll be on my own terms.

Isn't that what we're doing anyway? Living for the time when we die?

Yes, but we're not expecting it. We know we'll die eventually, but we're not left to count the time as it ticks away.

If you knew the day you would die, every morning you woke up, the first thing you would realize is "now I only have 2,771 days until the end". You would come to dread every new day.

Well, I don't mean to sound crazy, but I'd take a cue from Jigsaw in Saw II;

"Can you imagine what it feels like to have someone sit you down and tell you that you're dying? The gravity of that, hmm? Then the clock's ticking for you. In a split second your awe is cracked open. You look at things differently - smell things differently. You savor everything be it a glass of water or a walk in the park."

He then goes on to say;

"But most people have the luxury of not knowing when that clock's going to go off. And the irony of it is that that keeps them from really living their life. It keeps them drinking that glass of water but never really tasting it. "

Maybe I just think people don't really start living until they know their going to die. They put things off because there will always be "More time." But in the end, there is never enough.

I'd say one has to restrict himself in living fully to not artificially enforce your own death Wink I'd drive a stolen motorcycle on cocaine if I would know when my death date is Very Happy

So you can spend the rest of your life fighting the addiction and serving a couple of years in jail? ^^

if you knew your death date, would you also know what caused it? if it was by some treatable sickness, you could do some precautions to keep it from happening. like the flu. eat right and take your medicine. avoid certain places.. etc

if that werent the case though, id like to know any way for motivation to get stuff done for once Plotting
