Of course FFVIII isn't on the list...

I'd really like to know by what criteria they used to rate the game. Playability, or how well it did commercially?

Because Legend of Zelda and A Link To The Past should switch places. If their merely going by innovation, sure, LoZ was innovative for it's time, and a great game. But I feel ALttP is a much better game.

Doesn't matter, this list will change next year. Games like Modern Warfare 2 will probably get a higher ranking (Seems like they just stuck it on there to get credit from newer gamers).

Do keep in mind that this is an English magazine so it would only be games that were released in the US.

Though, Actraiser IS in there, so I guess that has to count for something? Very Happy

That magazine is owned and published by Game Stop Crop. It was only successfully popular because stores sell membership discount cards with a year subscription as "bonus".

Game Informer have quick peek page(s) on the Japanese games but not 100% on reviews.

I have played a lot of these games but there was one that stood out to me as an OLD Old-School Gamer:

All in all, not a bad list. Certainly better than the one Nintendo Power released back in '07 (or was it '06?). Anyway, EGM released one the same month that was much better, and was my primary decision for canceling my NP subscription and renewing my EGM subscription.

Well, that and the fact that NP stopped giving out free stuff to subscribers. (I miss the January Bonus Issues! Crying or Very sad)

At any rate, if I have some time this week, I'll post up their Top 200s as well. It's worth noting that they, too, are NTSC-only. (meaning no Terranigma or Seiken Densetsu 3)

I miss my subscription to PSM (Playstation Magazine) because they used to have summer swimsuit issues. Not even joking! Laughing It was freakin' hilarious.

They also frequently had comics about their staff. Very informal mag. I liked it.

Wow. Earthbound made the list. That series gets almost no love, aside from its cult following.

I tend to not take lists like this seriously, because most entries or places are up for debate. Make a list, and there will always, always be someone who says something like "no *insert favourite game here*?! This list sucks. I'm canceling my subscription to Game Informer, and never reading them again. Their writers/reviewers are idiots."

It happens with every game review, a top 10, 20, 100 or whatever list will only be worse.
