I used to play. I did for a long time (since I was about 10 or 11). But about 3 years ago or so, I stopped buying new cards, and have since pretty much given it up. My brother stayed in a bit longer, and only recently gave it up within the last couple of sets being released.
On the incredibly rare occasion that we do play a game, it's with older cards, and house rules. But it was getting to be expensive, and now that I've given it up, I find I don't really miss it much. _________________

Well, red is all about burning, and black is all about killing, so I'll guess one of those two. _________________

i dont have much knowledge of the cards, im still relatively new to it. it is a good way to pass the time, but it is an expensive hobby. hence why i limit the amount i spend on it. _________________

The point is just as a hobby, like anything else. What's the point of joining an RP thread, or playing Battleship.... or playing anything, for that matter?
The rules do get confusing, yes; especially with some of the recent changes in the last couple of years. But to answer your specific example, turning them on their side is to indicate that you're activating them. _________________

I used to play this game competitively in high school, up until about grade 11 when it was getting too expensive for me. Then I just played with friends. With my super-awesome 5 colour artifact deck. |

first red/black, later black only I still have my deck here! although the cards I'd really need for my combo are very expensive, and I substituted them with cheaper ones _________________

Used to play it when I was ~ 15, played for a few years but didn't have the money to start anything special. It was quite hyped at school though...oh the memories...! |

it's a hobby. Like playing video games, only with more interactions and less graphics. Although the artwork on the cards were often things of beauty. |

I used to have a green/white that did pretty well (not tournament legal... I couldn't be arsed to look up all the banned/restricted stuff, and mostly played with house rules anyway), and the last one I used was a blue/black that also did well. _________________

i currently have a green/black deck that does pretty well considering my inexperience. i mainly play for fun, im never going to play competitive. just too many people out there who have
1) almost infinite money to spend on it
2) too-good knowledge of the cards
when i was at school, no one played magic, it was all yu-gi-oh. i was heavily into that at the time, and i realised once i learned magic that yu-gi-oh is basically a dumbed down "junior" version of magic, with an awesome anime attached to it. its amazing how similar the rules are. well, minus the whole tapping for mana thing.
@chicken: yeah sometimes the rules can be confusing. especially when you dont just need to know them, you need to know how to abuse them to your advantage. but i started on yu-gi-oh, and the basics are very similar.
@dark_gaia: how much does your store sell jace vs chandra duel decks? i want one of those, because planeswalkers are fun _________________
