Yes, but you'll never find a way to refine a barrel of Crude Url. (OK, that was truly terrible, I apologise.... Smile)

===================
Side story:

Back in the sixth-form, I heard that one of the guys in my year had created a fully functioning porn site, which used a very similar domain to the school/college's own official website (except the college's site ended in *.org.uk, his site ended in *.co.uk). It even featured several students at the college (some underage), a bastardised version of the college's motto and logo design on the front page, and some of the girl's posing IN THEIR SCHOOL UNIFORM (she was hot, btw, and went on to be a porn actress, or so I heard). Way to fly under the radar there, mate....

He got suspended for a week and had to tear down his site under threat of being sued by the school (and running a porn site while being under 18 years, featuring models also under 18 years...). He also had to give the web domain over to the school for free. Unfortunately, I didn't hear about the damn site until after it had gone. Ah well. *Shrug*

Uh... do you lust to see underage girls in school uniforms? Scared

Well, remove the "underage" part, and I do too. I don't know why every guy is down with the schoolgirl thing. That's a question for the ages... Plotting

How would I go about purchasing a domain name? There's a specific one I want, and it asks me to join DomainBrokers. Is that a legitimate way of purchasing one, or is it a fraud? Do tell

EDIT: Btw, how much does one cost?

The costs differ greatly. If it's already taken, then the costs are up to who ever owns it. If it hasn't been taken yet, then depending on what company you go with, a domain will set you back between 3 and 20 USD (one time fee).

If you visit a domain, and you see a screen/website like DomainBrokers, or "This domain is for sale", that means it's actually already taken by someone, but, they're trying to get some money out of it by reselling, they're not using it themselves. They usually bought it themselves when it was still unregistered.

A proper unregistered domain should return a browser error ("Server not found", or "Could not establish connection", that sort of stuff) when you try to visit it. Like this one does.

Every TLD (.com, .net, .co.uk) is governed by a specific company, and they grant the sale rights of domain names with that specific TLD to other companies. The last mentioned companies are called registars. (yes, with star)

The most famous .com registar is GoDaddy. How ever, there are a million hosting companies out there, that can register the domain name for you, when you buy hosting off them. After all, for a website, you don't -just- need a domain, you also need hosting. Hosting is always contract, so monthly/yearly payments are to follow.

TerraEarth uses a company called Hosting ASAP for hosting and domain names. They offer you hosting, starting from 3.99USD/month, with a domain name thrown in for free.

So I'm looking at over a grand or so then, huh?

O. MY. YES!

Also, SoulBlazerFan, where did you get "over a grand" from eFlare's post? He said that hosting on this host starts from $4/month + free domain.

Unless I seriously misread something there. Which I shan't rule out just yet. Smile
