When I was a kid, this was my favorite Gameboy Game of all time. I must have played it all the way through like 20 times! (not that that is hard to do. I recently replayed a rom of it and beat it in a little under two hours.)

But a few questions still linger on about this game?

1. What good are the bonus levels?

Like those secret ones with the star over their door, or that one random level to the left of Wario's Castle with all the Goombas?

2. Why does the Space Zone only have one real level when all the others have 3? (well Turtle Zone has two...)

3. Why can't you replay the introduction level?

---

My Zone Preferences Go Like This:

1. Pumpkin Zone
2. Space Zone
3. Mario Zone
4. Macro Zone
5. Tree Zone
6. Turtle Zone

The Tree Zone was the most generic zone, but it was the only zone to have 4 regular levels and a boss level and the only zone that let you choose your own path.

And no surprises here. I love spooky stuff, and hate water levels. Space Zone was really cool too, but it's a shame they didn't do more with the low and zero gravity.

OH GOD THE TURTLE ZONE.

My least favorite as well.

1. Space Zone
2. Macro Zone
3. Pumpkin Zone
4. Tree Zone
5. Mario Zone
6. Turtle Zone

This game was the reason I wanted a Game Boy, even though it was a year after I got mine that I finally got this game. I love it sooooo much. The Hard Mode made it even better. Very Happy

For me, this game was the end of the 2D Super Mario series. The "New Super" series is a failure. Neither game has built on the design of SML 2; or even SMW, for that matter.

I don't know, I think they did what they were made to do; serve as a throwback to the original days. They used some old mechanics from several games, while modernizing it all a bit.

Also, the Turtle Zone sucked. I hated it, and I hated the boss. The Space Zone was fun while it lasted though, even if it was pretty short.

Getting through Wario's Castle was a bitch (I remember being annoyed by the moving platforms over the lava), but Wario himself was a pushover. I remember there being some epic-sounding 'evil' music when he's powering up with a fire flower, but it didn't make him much more threatening. Meh/Worried

They did indeed do what they were meant to do, and they did that well. I will agree on that. I just kind of wished to myself that rather than be throwbacks, they would have been actual follow-ups.

And Laughing about Wario! The dramatic Fire Flower music always made me laugh. "What's that you're powering up? Oh noes! Wait... You're dead already?"

None of the bosses in the game were particuarly challenging.

The three trickiest in my opinion were:

1. Alien (Space Zone)
2. Three Pigs (Mario Zone)
3. Wario Carrot Form (Castle Zone)

The Alien I only had trouble with just cause dodging the twin projectiles was a bit hard.

The Three Pigs was interesting because they were the only instance of more than one boss in a zone (aside from Wario) and the jumps were a bit tricky to time on the last two.

And the Carrot Form was tough if you lost that carrot you got.

I loved this game. Too bad I lost it quite a while ago.

Ah well. =[

The Mouse could be hard, in the sense that its easy to fuck up. But yeah, Alien was the only actual challenge (if you could call it that).

This game was great, it was the first brilliant Mario game on the GameBoy, because Super Mario Land was a success, but a mediocre game. However, they could even improve it with Super Mario Land 3 (actually that was subname of Wario Land!).
