At the promptings of my friends, I decided to sit down and play Earthbound. Obviously there is a lot to like about this game. The battle system, while simplistic, is nice and smooth, there's a humorous twinge to the entire game and so far it seems like a good storyline.
That being said there are some things that irk me.
1. The music.
The battle music changes based on what enemy you are facing and how you encounter them. A nice feature, which makes it such a shame that so far the music is sub par.
2. The ATM Card.
Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty innovative concept, but it's tricky juggling money... just like in real life. Though I will forgive this because I found out that if you get killed, the bad guy takes half your cash.
3. Poo?!
There is a character who (though I haven't met him in the game yet) is apparently called Poo. That doesn't really irk me, it's just freakin' hilarious. _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

Earthbound: A cult-classic JRPG that gets far, far, far, far, far more credit than it ever deserved.
Setting: Excellent, creative, and quirky.
Story: Odd, twisted (final boss is about child rape), yet endearing and moving.
Music: A few memorable tunes, but mostly odd bleeps and bloops.
Characters: Likable, but lacking in presence or depth.
Gameplay (Battle System): OUTDATED. Essentially an 8-bit Dragon Quest. Only in the mid-nineties. (wtf?)
Gameplay (Progression): Lots of backtracking and lack of direction. Unnecessary amounts of leveling needed to progress.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the game, but it really isn't very good! Plus, it has a really, really dark side. Seriously, don't look into it. _________________

ah man, that's damn right! I agree with tay here, a famous RPG that's only average for SNES games. _________________

Again there is a lot of innovation in this game. It's not entirely cookie-cutter.
But... ahem... YOU CAN SELL SHROOMS TO A GUY!!!
[Edit: ONEtt, TWOson, THREEd... ugh... horrible puns.]
[2nd Edit: And one more thing! Don't the graphics remind you of Pokemon?! Come to think of it there's a lot of stuff that reminds me of Pokemon. Ness and Ash have some similarity in their appearance, many of the townfolk appear similar, you can get a bicycle... they have a lot in common. _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

Pokemon and Earthbound are made by the same team. |

I didn't say I disliked the game! Just that it was crap!
...err, I mean, outdated and lacking in innovation.
...wait, no, it just could have been better!
WHAT I MEAN TO SAY IS THAT IT WAS A GOOD GAME!
