Rule34 and the ideal of women.

Is it just me or is Rule34 and the internet at large breeding an even more unrealistic image of the ideal woman?

Sick perverse fetishes are becoming the norm, new pictures, videos and games are keeping the socially abnormal creepers satisfied so that they don't have to learn the proper skills (probably doing a good thing in Darwinian terms). There is even some talk that these bizarre new things are breeding a new class of sexual predator.

i think the whole rule 34 thing is rather messed up. even though its safe to say that every guy who has ever played a game has had such thoughts about a video game character, rule 34 is taking it a bit too far.

the idea of the 'ideal' woman is specific to each person, and if someone is socially isolated enough to get their perception of the ideal from the internet, and goes out looking for a real-life tifa who wants nothing more than to fuck their brains out... they will be rather disappointed. but, as you mentioned, natural selection wins here.

dont know what you mean about the whole predator thing, i havent heard anything about that.

Well I think it's sort of sexist to suppose this only applies to women, men are objectified as well.

The whole "ideal woman/man" thing has been going on for quiet a while though, in fact I think if anything the internet has for many people reopened many possibilities concerning the conception of beauty that were not available before, when the cultural ideal of beauty was controlled by, say, make-up and clothing companies/the advertising industry.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and while this brave new era of unprecedented communication in human history has fostered some ideals of beauty in certain circles that you might find bizarre, and a few that are objectively wrong, it's still overall a good thing in my opinion.

And games/videos/pictures are made for a certain audience, if the audience didn't already exist, they wouldn't be made.

Ratty's right: most fanart comes out of Japan for any game that originated from there, and it's aimed toward a certain audience. Hell, even my beloved (eheheh ) series Ar tonelico is aimed at certain audiences! The first game had the girls being relatively normal in body sizes (save for Shurelia, but there's a reason for it), the second game had a larger breasted female and a normal-sized girl (...and then Frelia who is the same as Shurelia), and then the third game. I'll admit right now that I won't touch one of the girls and her storyline because of the fact that Gust cashed in on the fetish of DFC, or "delicious flat chest". Most of the girls in the game except for Saki and Rikka Ryosya are subject to it and... it honestly creeps me out.

Of course, this just means there's more creeptastic fanart on places like danbooru and the #chans.

I'll admit to laughing though at some of the stuff that used to be posted on 7chan's old /34/ board; there were some stuff that people swore up and down it "ruined their childhood" and that cracks me up.

Nope, we're not kidding you.
As far as alternate conceptions of beauty go, the furry fandom is pretty massive. Hell that image above (which is actually good considering the artist is bbmbbf, who's usually blaaargh*) is from a paysite that does nothing but *Sonic* pr0nz. And Sonic is just the tiniest tip of the iceburg concerning the fandom.

Which by the way is different from finding :animals: attractive. Furry fandom and zoophilia are very different and if you asked probably 90% of furries what they think of bestiality they'd share your opinion that it's gross. Though like any fandom there are lots of batshit people and furries are usually thought to be represented by the very vocal and crazy minority.

True, but the sad reality of life is even in the 21st Century we are still a predominantly Patriarchal society and in most countries in the world women are still seen as 2nd class. In the countries that don't we still hold women to an unfortunate double-standard.

Now you are correct in saying that men do suffer from this to a certain degree, but not in the same degree as women.
