Yeah, you definitely need a melody to be pre-recorded and played back whilst doing the harmonies.
That guy really rocks with his rendition of the Underworld theme though; I've listened to some of the others (almost all on piano/keyboard) and they all sound kinda....wrong, somehow, for the mood of the piece. The elec guitar suits this tune. 
I'll tell you another one that I think is pretty awesome, is this rendition of the Crysta theme by Equiartistin:

There's this one guy I like called Caleb Elijah, but I don't think he does Soul Blazer Trilogy music... so what's the point? Does a killer version (no pun intended) of Vampire Killer from Castlevania.
