just so that raini's *secret* thread doesnt get hijacked, i shall continue this stuff here. this isnt specifically a magic thread (despite the title) - any card game talk is fine. also, knowing us here at TE, itll turn into something very random and unrelated by the start of the 2nd page.
but yeah. im building a tournament deck based on a rare a lot of people consider really bad. basically, if i last long enough, it lets me draw whatever i want. literally, i can search my deck for a card instead of drawing:

Hahaha. "Secret" thread. Funny enough though, I was gonna start a thread myself for this.
Anyway. While trying to get the basics of the game down, I decided I was going to raid two of the decks I got out of the Planeswalker premades and build my own. I like building decks and even if they sucked in Yu Gi Oh!, it was still fun to go "huh, this deck could be fun!" I'm still a stupid n00b, but hey, it gives me good practice on what to use/how to build decks/balancing everything and so on and so forth.
The deck I've been mulling over is a green/black deck (I like Elves, forests have swamps in them and I like the black cards I've got in my deck; I'm so damn shallow right now about these cards aren't I? )
Course, since we're using this as a discussion, I'll ask for advice on my deck here so I won't be TOO much of a stupid n00b I'm trying to keep the UBER POWERFUL BUT TAKES FOREVER TO GET OUT cards to a minimum, and I'll probably make a sideboard deck after I rip open the other premades I got and/or swap out some cards, BUT as of right now, my card list:
Code: | 12 Forest
1 Demon's Horn
1 Mind Rot
1 Imperious Perfect
1 Underworld Dreams
1 Essence Drain
1 Drove of Elves
7 Swamp
1 Immaculate Magistrate
2 Rampant Growth
2 Moonglove Winnower
1 Child of Night
1 Centaur Courser
1 Acidic Slime
1 Jagged-Scar Archers
1 Natural Spring
1 Llanowar Elves
1 Weakness
1 Naturalize
1 Megrim
2 Blanchwood Armor
1 Gaea's Herald
1 Elvish Promenade
1 Plains
1 Hypnotic Specter
1 Greenweaver Druid
3 Elvish Eulogist
2 Elvish Visionary
1 Looming Shade
1 Wurm's Tooth
3 Elvish Warrior
1 Tendrils of Corruption
1 Deathmark
1 Elvish Champion
1 Soul Warden |
goddamn do we need a spoiler tag so we can collapse shit and not take up so much room must look into thisUh. Yeah. GO, GO FORTH AND GIVE ME ADVICE AND TELL ME I'M A STUPID N00B, I PROMISE I WON'T USE THE HAMMER ON YOU. _________________

I never had the math skills or inclination to learn how to play Magic the Gathering but I've always wished Wizards would release artbooks of the amazing paintings that have graced these cards.
Always tended to enjoyed the Merfolk art in particular.
Goblin paintings were usually fun funny and imaginative to. |

youre a stupid n00b. now that thats out of the way, i can get on with what i was going to actually say.
elves are quite cool. i have an elf deck which is almost competitive. it uses elf and general green mana hacking, as well as nissa, to bring out the thing that will eat your children's souls hopefully around turn 8 or so.
seriously, check those links. amusing stuff there.
anyway, general hints:
in a 60 card deck, try to ALWAYS have around 23 lands. i like 23, but some say anywhere from 21 to 25 based on the number of colours youre running. for 2 colours, 23-24 lands is perfect.
20ish creatures (give or take a couple) is also good. the rest can be whatever. more creatures, sorcery, instant, whatever.
try not to have lots of 1-of and 2-of in your deck. run 2-4 of each card you use. generally if youre using stuff like llanowar elves, use 4. and have big stuff you can play using their extra mana.
more specific hints: only use megrim where you have stuff to force them to discard... like BURNING INQUIRY. i have a peasant (almost all commons) deck based on that combo, and in a multiplayer game i wtfrape EVERYONE AT ONCE in like 4 turns.
dont use soul warden. use essence warden. exact same thing, just green and an elf. much better, yes? they are like 20c from any card store that stocks magic singles. get a few.
if youre running green, you should run a couple of both of these: fog, and vines of vastwood. vines especially is ridiculous.
i also wouldnt use demon's horn or wurm's tooth, as there are better ways to gain life. with elves, essence warden is great. and wellwisher is also nice.
another awesome elf card (although might be a bit expensive to buy) is joraga warcaller.
the other cards in there i dont know that well, but for starters that should give you a bit of an idea. _________________

God damn it XD

Sweet. I'll have to see if I have some of those other cards in my decks, or substitute if not. Never know what I might find that can work. I'll also add moar land into my deck. _________________

AND NOW I RESURRECT THIS THREAD IN THE NAME OF... I really don't know.
But I did get a Liliana in my booster pack today. I'm proud of that.
I've also found I like to build decks, even if they are mildly crappy... and I like using opposing elements (green/black deck!), so I was thinking of perhaps trying to build a red/blue deck. Course, I want to build a straight black one now that I have Liliana and Liliana's Specters... _________________

liliana is cool, i have 2. one from boosters, one from the duel deck. (its green-black, and quite cool. you get 2 planeswalkers)
red/blue is a kickass combo, control+burn (kill their things and say fuck you when they try to do anything) _________________

Precisely what I was thinking. The first time I played against a friend, he used a control deck and obliterated me. Sooo I want to try a red/blue for that reason. I should have some decent cards by now for it. _________________

4x lightning bolt, 4x mana leak as a minimum.
if you want to be really mean, the Act of Treason + Fling combo is also amusing. (all m11 so far) then, some creatures (make sure they are 1 or 2 mana cost though), then some epic fat things. around 20 creatures, 23 lands, and total 60. _________________

Ohohohoho. I have Fling! I just got one today. I'll have to get more lightning bolts, and I have two mana leaks, I do believe. _________________

Ehehehe yes I do. I played draft last Friday for the M11 release. I'm terrible at the game but it's SUPER FUN. Of course now I'm looking to find cards because the art is pretty... _________________

if you like pretty art, look at the Rise of the Eldrazi set. the art on most of the cards is very good. _________________
