<<awaiting orders>>

Options:

A)Capture the Ju-On
Ju-Ons are very tough opponents. If I cannot beat the Ju-On I will become one... and that should not hinder my progress any more than being a zombie does. Ju-Ons when they are defeated leave very little behind, but the Grudge Stain they use to mark their territory should suffice.

B)Capture a Zombie
There are some zombies just outside. Perhaps I could go kill one and drain it's... well not its blood, but I guess some of its pus will do.

C)Capture a Ghost
I thought I saw a ghost haunting the music room. That's tricky. Perhaps some of its ectoplasm will do.[/quote]

Exclamation Freedan
HP: 53/ 53
Stamina: 7/ 10
Infection: 0%
Weight: 6/61

Trent's shots are becoming more erratic as the infection begins to eat away at him. He clips the last remaining zombie and Freedan rushes in with his claws for the final strike.

<<HP increased by 3. Weight Capacity increased by 1.>>

"Thanks for the help, son," Trent says as he lays down against the wall. "I'm in pretty bad shape."

"I can see that," Freedan sighs, looking at Trents mauled left arm.

"Get me back to the settlement. We're going to have to amputate," Trent groans.

"Amputate?" Freedan asks.

"We found that if you sever the affected limb before the infection takes you completely, you can stop the spread of the zombie virus. Those bastards at Aegis were supposed to develop a wide line of prosthetic limbs for just that purpose, but the shipments never made it out of HQ," Trent groans.

Freedan opens the door to the Security Office. Inside he sees that the place has been pretty much stripped bare of anything he can use, with two exceptions.

Whoever ransacked the place (and Freedan had a pretty good idea of who it was) had seen fit to take all the guns they could grab, but had left a rifle, for no good reason.

<<Freedan unequips the Hatchet(3d6) and equips the Rifle(3d6+12). The Rifle has 8 rounds, but they have not been treated with anything.>>

"If anything worse than zombies show up this will do me little good," Freedan sighs. "I'd better hang onto the Hatchet too, in case I run out of bullets."

He also notices as Fenix Booster Shot. The label says that it will reduce 25% of the Zombie Infection.

"Find everything you can use huh?" Trent asks.

"Yeah. I've got a booster shot here, will that help?" Freedan asks.

"Naw, you take it son. My arm is in too bad condition. Even if I could cure the disease the arm is half gone already," Trent sighs, being surprisingly stoic about losing his arm.

Freedan lifts him up onto his back and begins to walk down the hallway towards the settlement.

It's evening by the time they reach the settlement, mainly because they had to take a very roundabout method of getting there. The surviving humans have turned a large anchor store into a settlement. Cash registers are used to apportion rations based on daily work done for the settlement.

Do no work, and you only get a power bar, where as varying levels of work get you better meals.

"Trent!" Cries a woman who is unmistakably Trent's wife. "Thank god you're back!"

She looks at Freedan and smiles. "Thank you for helping my husband."

"He's not in great shape," Freedan nods. "He needs an amputation."

"Well that's how it goes," the woman sighs. "Most of the people who have ventured out of this settlement needed one."

And Freedan takes a scan around to see several people missing an arm or a leg.

"It's been a rough few days. This all came together surprisingly quickly," Trent explains as he lays down on a table. A man wearing a lab coat and a face mask pulls out a small bag with the smallest hacksaw Freedan had ever seen. "We have guys building fortifications, setting up electric generators, and doing everything else possible."

The doctor injects an anesthetic into Trent's neck.

"We've got enough food to survive comfortably for about two weeks, but we're trying to find alternate methods of acquiring supplies. And the government can't help us. The military, apparently, can't help us," Trent's wife curses. "We're on our own. You're welcome to stay with us. What do you say?"

"I actually have a place," Freedan said, skirting around the issue. "I'm investigating the cause of this disaster, but there are so many mixed reports. Some say sightings of these things started a week ago, others say three days. I need verifiable data."

"You know the only place you'd be able to get that would be at Aegis HQ, but nobody goes there. The place is crawling with the undead," The doctor says. "Do you feel that?" He asks pinching Trent's arm.

"No," Trent replies, a bit of his stoic resolve failing.

"Okay, here it comes," the doctor says. And without another word of warning he slashes the saw down into the bone and with the word of an expert he goes through the entire arm in less than thirty seconds. Blood spurts everywhere until a nurse quickly bandages up the arm and secures it into place.

Trent's wife can't bear to look, but feels ashamed at turning away. She stands awkwardly on the spot, trying to talk to Freedan as though nothing is happening.

"You know the government district has a widespread network. You might also try Euro College. Both have fact-checkers and databases for any event in town," she said.

"Which is more reliable?" Freedan asked.

"Officially speaking," and it's hard to mistake the derisive tone in her voice. "The government computers. But those college students don't censor or filter their posts."

"But that also means you might get unreliable data," Freedan argues.

"It's your call. Both options are about as dangerous," she says, giving her husband a hug.

Options:

A) Check out Aegis HQ.
I figured I'd have to go there eventually, but it's a very dangerous option.

B) Check out the Capitol Building.
Government data, while they may censor some materials, is usually accurate on what they do provide... or at least that's what I'd like to believe. I can have Natal verify the reports.

C) Check out Euro College.
EU does have a tech center, but that sounds like a lot of searching and filtering. Still there's no censorship.

Exclamation EverPhoenix/ Chicken/ Blade

Weight: 3/40

Sergeant Chicken
HP: 25/ 25
Stamina: 6/ 10
Infection: 0%
Weight: 3/40

Sergant 1st Class Blade
HP: 25/ 25
Stamina: 6/ 10
Infection: 0%
Weight: 3/50

The last of the zombie hordes are wiped out in a massive fireball from from Blade's cannon.

<<HP increases by 5.>>

"Alright we're moving out! We're going to head to Aegis HQ!" the driver shouts.

"What? Shouldn't we secure the civilians first?" EverPhoenix asks.

"The largest collection of undead is hovering that general area. Plus we need to gather intel on the place," a man explains. He is wearing a full combat uniform and has a pair of Captain's Bars on. "Captain Rhodes," he says, introducing himself.

[50 Gems if you get the reference]

"I've got a bad feeling about this guy," Chicken mumbles.

The sun begins to set as they reach Aegis HQ. The much ballyhooed zombie threat seems to have dispersed.

"Don't be stupid," Rhodes says. "They're still there. Just inside Aegis HQ. Most likely in the basement. That's fine by me. We have to go up."

"Okay. What are our orders?" Chicken asks.

"Uh, first remind me of your ranks again," Rhodes asks. "You're not geared up either."

"Staff Sergeant," Chicken says.

"Sergeant," EverPhoenix nods.

"Master Sergeant," Blade explains.

"Yeah, well you've been out of service for a year and a half, so that comes with a rank penalty," Rhodes explains.

"Are you serious?" Everphoenix groans.

"Shut it, Corporal," Rhodes barks.

<<EverPhoenix is Corporal Rank. Chicken is Sergeant Rank. Blade is Sergeant 1st Class.>>

"I'll give you some better gear once we get out of this mission. For the moment your pistols will probably do you better," Rhodes explains. "Here's the plan."

Code:

Mission Briefing

Objective:  Secure classified Aegis Information.

Infiltration Method:  Ground Floor Doorways

"Command Team"

The Command Team will wait in the APC and shoot down any external threat, keeping a clear path for the other three teams.

"Fire Team Alpha"

Fire Team Alpha will be the main diversionary team.  Their job is to head into the basement and restore power to the facility, but aside from that, they are to make as much noise as possible so that Fire Team Beta and Recon Team are able to do their job with little difficulty.

"Fire Team Beta"

Fire Team Beta will escort Recon Team up to the top floor and then cover the escape route for them.  When Recon Team is on their way out, Fire Team Beta will use the normal method of exit.

"Recon Team"

Recon Team will head to the top floor to the President's office and attempt to copy the data to a Data Disk. When their mission is complete they will rappell out of the windows to ensure safe recovery.

"Do you understand it?" Rhodes asks.

"So you're basically sending Fire Team Alpha to their deaths?" Chicken asks.

"The basement was grated off and there is an elevator that they can use to escape if things get too hot," Rhodes explains.

"Why don't you want Fire Team Beta to rappell down as well?" Blade asks.

"That's just a resource issue. We only have one rappell line available. Whoever's in Recon Team will have to share. It's just faster for them to go out using the stairs," Rhodes explains.

"So I'm guessing we have to choose what team we want to assist?" EverPhoenix asks.

"Yeah. And none of you are Electricians or Hackers, so really you'd just be weapons support," Rhodes nods.

Options:

A) Join Fire Team Alpha
Go down and bait the undead. That sounds safe.

B) Join Fire Team Beta
Safe option and we'd be with guys who know they're way around guns.

C) Join Recon Team
This is basically a team of scientists. They might need the support, but they'd still have weapons of their own.

Inferiare makes her way to the Music Room. As soon as she enters the piano begins to play. Another person might be unnerved by the sight of the keys moving on their own, but inferiare sees the spectral figure of a woman. A woman she can remember...

"Shai'ra?" Inferiare asks.

The ghost turns and looks at her. There is a haunting, accusing look in her soulless eyes. Inferiare is suddenly very aware that she has no weapon that can possibly harm this ghost. It will have to be a psychokinetic battle.
