Okay, I heard this mentioned on AVGN and I want to comment on it.
As some of you know, our own Zelda Encyclopedia tay120n64 is taking on the Zelda: Link to the Past No-Damage Challenge.
Well that's pretty hardcore, especially to me since my slouch, keyboard using ass always takes damage in even the most menial boss fights.
But there are people out there who have beaten the original Legend of Zelda WITHOUT GETTING THE SWORD.
First off, my question is how? I mean sure you can buy like bombs and such, but how do you collect rupees? How do you get keys from rooms? I mean I'm sure it is possible, but it's just so freakin' obnoxious.
Before you ask, no I won't be trying this anytime soon...

OKAY, I KINDA WANT TO TRY IT. Just to see what the hell it's all about. But the fact is I lack the skillz to get very far. I've never beaten the original game the normal way. _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

In the first Zelda? Yeah. You can really get to Ganon, but you can't kill him. I can't do it. I suck at the first two Zelda games. Especially Zelda 1. I tried to beat it without dying once, but could only make it to Dungeon 6. Damn Wizrobes. To this day the first two are the only Zeldas I have not beaten without dying.
Also, I'm playing ALttP on my actual SNES. There's no way I could do it with a keyboard, and the only adapter I have is for a PS2 controller. _________________

I was wondering about that.
My question is how do you start? You have nothing that can deal damage! How do you get keys/ ruppees?
Also yesterday for fun I tried a combo no-sword, no-damage challenge in ALttP. Well, as it turns out it's impossible to do it without the sword because you have to kill a blue guard to get past your first locked door and there are no pots or bushes... and of course I took damage trying to hurt him with the lantern (fyi, it don't work). _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

In the very top right corner of the overworld map, there's a 'secret to everybody' (accessed by walking through the rocks on the screen with the Money Making Game).
It's 100 rupees. That'll get you a blue candle, which will give you some kind of offense until you can scrounge up some money for some other weapons. _________________

There are enough immediately accessible "Secrets to Everybody" to get the Magical Shield and Blue Candle before even stepping foot in the first Dungeon (assuming you also know which shops sell the Candle and Shield cheapest). It's what I always do. Then I save up for the Blue Ring. _________________

You're talking about the first Zelda, not ALttP, right? _________________

lol, yes. Yes I am.
It irritates me that it takes so long to get the Armor upgrade in ALttP. I usually have the armor upgrade in the first Zelda before I even enter Dungeon 3! _________________
