Heres the Story

So, the rundown: it's centered around it's own sun, in an orbit to "potentially" have it's own atmosphere and liquified water.

So, read the article, and discuss.

Odds that I'll live to see humans develop another planet: slim to nil.

Odds that my kids will live to see humans develop another planet: less slim to nil.

That being said it is very interesting to finally see another planet within our relative reach that can sustain life, but the skeptic in me is just waiting to hear to taunts from the anti-religious community:

"See! There's another planet with life! So that means that ANY planet can have life and God is a myth!"

Maybe I'm just being bitter, lol. Laughing

Well, nothing in the Christian Bible (Or any other, as far as I know) said anything about there not being any other life in the universe, or better yet, another planet to live on.

There's going to be some catch... like it's a dwarf planet or something.

Didn't the article say they're afraid it might be too big and end up an ice giant like Neptune?

Or maybe it'll be a planetoid like Pluto... all because of some lonely men in lab coats who said "we want to leave a lasting impression on the scientific community even if it means everybody hates us."

Actually, the article said it wasn't too big- so they're not afraid of it being an ice planet like Uranus.

Our local newspaper stated it to be only slightly bigger than Earth. And temperatures estimated to be between -15° and -35°. However the best places to be living in is at the Twilight zone. Since it doesn't rotate around it's axis. One side is constantly being sunburned while the other remains shrouded in darkness Very Happy

the other thing that makes me skeptical is the oxygen type on that planet. too much of it, too little, poisonous carbon type (if there even IS carbon on that planet), or if anything will even be edible. all life evolved with each other, so if we start eating foreign planet food, we might die. all the possibilities im thinking of right now... Confused

but maybe life developed there und this circumstances? would be awesome enough, even if we couldn't inhabit and overcrop it Very Happy

@jason: it's like sbf said, nobody says that god only made the earth. this planet would have it's own creation story Wink besides, a pope said (/the catholic church stated) that the big bang theory is consonant with the genesis, so other planets shouldn't be a problem Smile
