This is totally a random thought to pop into my head, but I'm naturally curious. Is there an equivalent of Veteran's Day in other counties than the US? What does it entail? _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

ANZAC Day in Australia. One of our bigger public holidays.

wow, thats harsh for the soliders Psy. Sure what happened in the war was fucked up, but 99% of soldiers are just doing their duty to their country. Hell, ANZAC day is based around Australia invading Turkey in WW1... we are the assholes! _________________

yeah, the "clean wehrmacht" I think it's not that easy, and especially the other combatants like the WaffenSS weren't just only doing their duty to their country.

I'm sure that if we would invade Turkey today the soldiers would get their veterans day too you aussies are so damn lucky with your asian invasion... _________________

Nope, don't think we have sth. similar, since we -can't- be that proud of our veterans...it's hard to draw a line between good, serving soldiers, and Auschwitz guards, so we don't draw it at all

Oh wait, I think there is some sort of day, but it's frequented by right-winged people, and causes counterprotests by left-winged people. _________________

We call it "Remembrance Day" in Canada, but it's the same as in the U.S., really.

At 11:00 AM, there's a moment of silence. It used to be one minute, but was increased to two in recent years. Most places play Taps, and there's often a recital of "In Flanders Fields", a poem written during the first World War by a Canadian soldier after the death of a fellow soldier the day before.

Some cities or towns also hold a parade. I don't remember where it was, but there was one not too far from here. _________________
