Manga came first before anime. Like most of media, anime is based on the original manga. I don't read or watch Space Battleship Yamato. All I have aware of it is the trailers from YouTube.

| It's rare for a manga to be based on an anime, but it happens on occasion. I prefer the manga over the anime most of the time. Soul Eater is the most recent exception to that. |
