I'm going to be replacing the connector, and maybe disabling the lockout soon. Any advice? Or should an instruction video on youtube be good enough?

www.nintendorepairshop.com

The website also approved the guides on console repairing too.

I checked YouTube for the videos on the lockout chip disabling and they seen shared the same simple method (although it also 'cure' the blinking red light issue).

Please take a care while doing it. Otherwise you will end up with useless electronic junk.

The new connector never worked properly, so I boiled the old one that was seven years or older, with dead bugs and droppings stuck in it. It performed flawlessly. I played Crystalis from beginning to end last night with no glitching.

I've been told that you should always replace the original 72 pin connectors with gold ones- but I've also heard that the gold ones aren't that gold. Investigate yourself and make your own choice.

The-8-bit-kid, an ebay seller, sells the gold connectors at 7.25 with free shipping. So far, he's the only guy I've come across on ebay that sells them anymore. I mean, it might be worth taking a look into.

There was no gold plating on the new one. I wondered if that had anything to do with it after noticing the difference between the two of them.

When I said gold the second time, I meant "good." I've heard conflicting reports on both sides. Like I said, it's worth investigating yourself to find out.

I myself got a gold one for my person NES, and I now replace 72 pins on other NES's and try and sell them. I got a bulk amount of spare NES games I'm cleaning and trying to sell, but it's difficult to find buyers these days.
