Post Your Opinions About The World Map Here!!!!
The Poll Item is whether or not the map should have random encounters.
Here are some tidbits about the world map:
-Divided into 4 sections (South Continent, East Continent, North Continent-East Side, North Continent-West + Islands)
-Crystals (for the most part) dictate locales on the map.
-Every section has 3 "secret spots" with either hidden dungeons or treasure!
-From the beginning of the game (for the most part), every location is accessible (except the Tower of Babel). The travel might be perilous, but you can get from point a to point b.
-You must purchase rides aboard ships to get between continents and islands. These rides vary in cost, even in a difference of direction (i.e. From South Continent->Isla Del Mar De Incendio =1000, but the reverse fare is only 500)
-You can only save in save points and at the world map.
-Locales on the map (except Secret Spots) are classified by Danger( High, Mild, Low, None) and Area Type: (Town, Field, Dungeon) |

There should also be random encounters while on the ship. |

well the journey part of the ship only occurs during story sequences, otherwise it's basically a teleportation. |

It would be nice though if there's an artifact in the game which allows you to increase/decrease the rate of encounter. (One time use/Temporary like the Holy and Dark bottles in Tales of games and Permanent Item/Permanent effect like the Scout orb in Tales of Phantasia.) |

Indeed, if only because I like being a decent level in dungeons. _________________

Keep in mind that numerous points on the world map (field icons) act like pseudo-dungeons for leveling up. And since the scope of an area on the map is relatively large the monsters on the world map would be fairly weak. I guess it's decided then. Random encounters on the map it is! |

Is it about a fan-game? Where can I get more info? Well, if it is, if you make random encounters in a world map, make them to be at a low rate, not every four steps. _________________

limiting the saving possibilities is a quite neat way to prevent roll-back bypasses (instant rereloaing in random encounters until a certain outcome). I personally prefer systems where one can save all the time he can move free on the map (meaning he's disallowed to in dialogues, fights (if they take place in a seperate mode or environment, aso.), coz it just frustrates having to play a 10min part of a dungeon around 40times just because the designers were to blunt to place the savepoints properly xD. _________________ AtW Studios

i think about unusual situations, where you have to abort the game in short time, but your last save was quite some time ago, so what do you do? it hurts to shut the game down without saving when you CANNOT play until you reach the next savepoint... _________________

Well to counter that I have an item called Porta-Save Points. You start out with 3, and you can buy more, but they're fairly expensive. |

Personally I am against walking on maps like Terranigma uses it. I am more of a fan of the Secret of Mana system. No walking on the map, but the occasional flight because it would take to long to travel otherwise. Like in the beginning of the game, you can take the Canon Travel Center to go to the Water Palace, but you can also walk through the entire forest, which is great.
But that's just my opinion. Ergo random spawns of hell on the map would be a no for me. |

Hmmm... we seem to be of a split opinion... maybe I should make it an option you choose at the games start. Encounters: On or Off. |
