Right now I have a Logitech Dual Action controller, the nonvibrate kind. For games like Grand Theft Auto 3, it works great. The analog sticks are great and the buttons are very well made.
But for the ZSNES, it's fair. The 8-way directional pad on the left sucks. It's basically a little circular bowl the thumb moves around in and presses for directions. But it's difficult to aim for certain directions because there's nothing distinguishing to feel. On an SNES controller, it's plus + shaped so you can feel the up, down, left, and right directions. And it's easy to know what a diagonal direction feels like.
But on my Logitech, it all feels the same.
The left analog stick is what I usually use. It's fair like I said, but not as quick to change directions. For example, going left, then quickly going right. Activating Will's run in IoG can be a little tricky, sometimes I'll use the directional pad for that.
So I'm awaiting my SmartJoy USB adapter to arrive in the mail, so I can use a real SNES controller.
So which controllers do you use on your PC, for the ZSNES and other games? |

I used to use a Gravis Gamepad Pro for snes and gba, but there were barely any other games that I played that used a controller ... and I can't use that anymore cause one of my friends sat on it and broke a part of it _________________ It's high time I revised this signature. |

Ah that's unfortunate
I saw a Gravis pad at Comp USA. I used to have an old one for a 486 computer. It had four buttons, but two were really turbo buttons for the other two.
Is the one you have the one where you can put a little joystick on the directional pad?
How responsive is the directional pad? Is it easy to use for getting specific directions? |

it was pretty good when using the joystick, just took some getting used to, without it it was kinda annoying. Other than the joystick it looked like a playstation controller before the dual shock (of course the colours and everything are different, but thats a story for another time) _________________ It's high time I revised this signature. |

I used to have a controller like the one you described, but it's gone missing. So I do all my gaming by keyboard. It would probably be easier to just go out and buy one, but I'm too cheap for that. _________________

I just use the keyboard. The bf has a controller he uses when he plays emulated games though.
For games like FF11 though, I use the keys that are the default. I don't want to go through the trouble of reconfiguring the controller to play that game. I'm glad the Sims uses the mouse. _________________

Aghh, ZSNES...

I use SNES9X obviously o.o
I have a Microsoft Sidewider keypad. (this specific model, in case anyone cares)
It's been working for as long as I can remember having it, and never had a single issue. _________________ ... "If you doubt, you question. If you question, you understand. If you understand, you know. If you know, you want to know more. And if you want to know more... you are alive." |

Because ZSNES crashes a lot. At least mine does. So I use SNES9x as well. Plus, only SNES9x can play Star Ocean. _________________

Hmm I don't remember ZSNES crashing for me. I have the latest one. I like how I can save 10 game states so I can save all my favorite parts of games.
I'm wondering if a keyboard can be made with a control pad, so the whole thing can be held and used as a controller.. |

I use third-party N64 controller called Superpad 64 Plus with help of Adaptiod to play any of emulators but PSone. Before I bought Adaptiod and N64 controllers, I used Belkin Nostromo N45 gamepad. Someday I get a PS2 to PC converter for PS2 controller since it's had comfort buttons for me to pull combos. _________________

Zsnes is okay with me but its "screensaver disabled" option wont work.... that's why zsnes crashed after screensaver activited.
But zsnes emulator need serious issues to work out like appearance or perfect the speed like real console.
I will love to make new snes emulator but I got no skills to do it. _________________
