Here's an interesting thought, all of the choices we make are based on quantum mechanics. This explains why people make irrational decisions from time to time. The illusion of logical decisions are based on the very high percentage weight being placed on a particular decision, after weighing in the factors. (The decision of which is weighted and not are also decided on past experiences.) So, does this mean that what separates us from conventional computers is the fact that we're quantum computers? _________________

We are so to speak Bio-computers. Developed to a sense of making individual descisions, based on an amount of consious and sub-consious feelings.
We store memories by making protein chains, we enjoy feeling good by hormones.
So instead of using the 1's and 0's, we use biochemical reactions but the result is the same. Infact if we ever create a computer that can make descisions for it own and has "feelings" like us. How can we not call it alive? Its just like us, only the medium of its excistence is of a diffirent nature. _________________ Its nice to be important, but its more important to be nice. |

Exactly, this may be the only difference between us and computers, living and inanimate. _________________

I think I would rather not know how quantum mechanics work.
I mean, I don't care if our thoughts really are controlled by some laws and predictable. But I like the mystery. At least to let a bit out the knowledge out.
But I would feel bad using a quantum computer then, if they are so alike to us. |

Quantum works quite different from logic. All the paramaters an the next courses of actions are superimposed upon each other, giving an illusion to free choice.
It's like a probability machine, only it spits out the output as actions.
I started this topic because I would like to generate some insight onto the possibility of creating artificial sentinence with computers and thus self-learning 'droids. The subject is touched upon when I tried to plot the storyline for TERRA. _________________

Yust a lil note: all signals within our nerves are based on electric energy. It's just a Chain of Polarity changes that results in a one-way transportation of the standardized nerve signal any neurocell can emit. So actually even in our metabolisms it still goes the binary way ^^. (+ = 0 and - = 1). So in fact compared to a computer we're quite outdated since every of it's cables allows two way transportation without melting itself to ashes. _________________ AtW Studios

Input/output cables are usually bundled in pairs, one for data/electrical input and one for output. _________________
