The Philospopher's Stone was released in America as The Sorcerer's Stone. That was the only book title that was changed.

The Philosopher's Stone is an actual mythological item which does exactly what it does in Harry Potter. They changed it to Sorcerer's Stone apparently because they thought we wouldn't get the reference, plus which Sorcerer's Stone more mystical sounding. _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

Actually, it was changed because of the connotations of "Philosopher's Stone" and it's connections with Alchemy and "non-Christian" Rituals. It's less that Americans are idiots, and more that we're "easily-offended".

It happens alot with British things. Look at what happened when they brought Coupling over. The British version was hilarious and raunchy, but after only a couple episodes, the American version was canceled for being "too offensive". Seriously. Some Americans need to grow up. _________________
