Lou Albano has been sick for many years. I've met him on several occasions, actually... my brother has been in pro wrestling for three years now, and been a fan for over a decade or so. Actually, Wrestlemania 26 is this year, he's been watching since WM 11... so fifteen. I met him twice, got his autograph- he kept up that same personality he had on wrestling.
He'll be sorely missed.
EDIT: The show and the movie were more or less things of their time and place... kids ate it up. I loved the movie as a kid... but didn't realize how bad it was until I saw it when I was older... at like age 11. _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. Um... RE: the movie. I have four words.
John Leguizamo as Luigi.
I knew then that it was bad. It had some humorous moments, and the appearance of them in their suits was one of the "hell yeah" moments of my childhood... but that was just it. The movie is bad because they tried to take something as childish as Mario and give a semi-serious edge, which it just straight up didn't have. It would have been less childish (ironically) if they had left it all cartoony and colorful.
The show wasn't bad in that respect, but it was definitely for kids. Of course I never saw the Zelda segment of that show and frankly the Zelda show is like American slavery. We wish we could deny it and it's a part of our history that we're not proud of. _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

He was a professional wrestler years ago. He was famous for his Hawaiian shirts and distinct beard.
Then he got the part of Mario for the live-action segments of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show. Of course, that required him to shave that beard of his.
It definitely sucks to see him go. I remember watching the show religiously as a kid. Looking back on it, it was so incredibly lame and corny, but as a kid, you couldn't get enough of it. And he made such a good Mario (their Luigi... Danny Wells... was a good fit too).
It's a bit of a consolation to know that he was 76, though. He lived a long life (even if his last few years were plagued with health problems). A disturbing number of people in the wrestling business die in their 40s or 50s, often from drug use or physical trauma. _________________

Well you are right, Lou Albano was a wrestler- but his fame peaked during his time as a manager. Some of you may have been too young (Or non-existant, and part of it I wasn't even born for yet) he teamed with pop sensation (at the time) Cyndi Lauper. He appeared in some of her music videos. In "Girl's Just Want To Have Fun," he played her dad. And- one of my favorites- he appeared in the "Goonies R Good Enough" video from the Goonies soundtrack, also playing her father. He appears in the opening, along with several other wrestling personalities, including Classy Freddy Blasse and Rowdy Roddy Piper. Andre The Giant was even in the video. (We lost Andre in '93, from defects from the disease he had that made him as tall as he was, and Blasse in '03 from old age).
If you want to see them, you can probably find them on youtube. If you happen to own the Goonies on DVD (I hope some of you have seen this timeless classic) the Goonies R Good Enough video is a bonus feature. _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. Gah!
I read about this on 1up earlier this week. I have season one of SMBSS on DVD. As crappy as it might have been, the live-action segments were ironically charming. _________________
