Humility. You Can't Win...

On this other forum that I joined recently, people apparently seem to think I have low self-esteem and need cheering up.

Why?

Because I'm new there and trying to be reserved and modest, and moreover I pretty much am that way overall regarding my work. I acknowledge when others do better than me, and can laugh at my own errors. This is just how I was raised, and it's not a sign of depression or anything like that.

But people seem to think I am. Do I come off that way to you guys? I daresay as long as I've been here I've gotten a reputation as a bit of a cocky bastard, lol.

Is humility a sign of poor self-esteem?

There's a difference between self esteem and cockiness. There's also a difference between humility and self-deprecation.

Humility doesn't mean low self esteem. In fact, I'd say it's the opposite. You have enough self esteem to be comfortable with who you are and what you do without having to throw yourself a parade.

I wouldn't worry about it since it's the internet, and humility and other actions can't really translate that well through text.

No, real humility is a sign of wisdom. Because you know your fellow man (or woman). It's possible you can have low-self esteem and still be humble, though.
