Looking at the game, I've come to feel like several modern games have taken hints from it in terms of game design.
Dark Cloud
Saving human society one soul at a time? Where do we remember that from?
Secret of Mana
I think this came after Soul Blazer, right?
Threads of Fate
I couldn't really go into specifics, but they just feel similar.
Any others? _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

Secret of Mana? And that borrowed or expanded on what aspects of Soul Blazer?[/i] _________________

The combat system is what it reminds me of (althought granted I have a limited time playing both games). _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

I'll help you out then.
They have nothing in common other than genre.
Both are 2D Action/RPG, but the battle-systems couldn't be more different. _________________

I suppose you're right. When it comes to Soul Blazer I'm pretty much always talking out of my ass as I've only played like one hour of the game.
[Edit: But you have to admit, I have a point about Dark Cloud.] _________________ Current Avatar commissioned work by Seiken Arts.

Never played or seen Dark Cloud in action, so I wouldn't know.
However, I'd like to add that Soul Blazer is so intensely basic of a game, that you would be hard pressed to compare anything to it, aside from perhaps Actraiser. _________________

Soul Blazer and Dark Cloud are practically Twins Seperated At Birth(and then born 2 generations apart).
Arive in area
Area is Empty
Find a dungeon
Fight Monsters
Find Orbs inside dungeon that are people or items
Return to town to gain items etc.
Battle Boss
Go to new area
Rinse
Repeat
Dark Cloud added upon the system by...
Random dungon mapping
Multiple Characters
Weapon upgrade system
The buildings that usually come with people in SB are seperate and you can place them where you please(or rather, where/how they ask you to).

i kinda think secret of mana and chrono trigger are alike, at least with character designs. |

Sorry to necro a 2 year old topic. Secret of Evermore is supposed to be some kind of piss-take of the Secret of Mana games. It has the same ring menu system and the player HP bars are identical. It's actually a pretty good game and there's a lot of sarcasm that'll have you giggling.
As for anything that's identical to the Soul Blazer trilogy I can only think of E.V.O. Search for Eden. You start off as a fish that needs to evolve. I've only just started playing it and so far I've evolved into a dinosaur. I'm assuming the final evolution is human and then to do something to save or evolve the world. |

Evermore was designed to be the American version of Secret of Mana (much like Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest was the American take on the Final Fantasy games) so similar in execution, but differing storylines because of the difference in cultures. _________________

Ah, I read a different story, but then the game was written by the same company. I love the amount of sarcasm in the storyline. It's inspiring me to write a comic based on a similar gamestyle where the "hero" finds some item that dooms the world and despite being really frustrated about being forced out of his hometown he keeps meeting people who berate him until he agrees to help them out. My drawing skills are slacking a bit but I could certainly give it a shot. _________________
