Self-explantory. What games do you know that are influenced by this obscure masterpiece?
Here are some of mine:
The Granstream Saga - It's the fourth game in the series, so this is a given. I believe that there is a thread about the similarities with the "trilogy" on GameFAQs. Also, the music is pretty similar.
Xenogears - The plot is very similar to the one in Terranigma, with the reincarnation and the light/darkness and... yeah. Except more sci-fi. Also, there is a character named Elly who is an expy of Elle in many ways. Since Squaresoft and Enix were rivals before they merged, I'm sure this was intentional.
Sonic Unleashed - There is a Dark Gaia (the final boss) who looks a lot like Dark Gaia's second form in Terranigma. I'm fairly sure Light Gaia appears as well. Probably a reference.
Super Smash Bros. Melee - I'm sure this is a coincidence, but the main theme sounds a lot like "Light and Darkness" from the Terranigma OST.
Your turn, what are some games that ripped off/referenced Terranigma? |

Sonic unleashed as well. Gaia is not something terranigma came up with.
The Granstream Saga - Never heard of it, and from a quick read on the wiki it dosent appear to share the common theme of resurrection in the soul blazer trilogy (trilogy means 3, not 4)
Xenogears... good game, but yeah... no... _________________

Refer to the discussions of this around the site for more info. Though it is "technically" part of the series, TE officially discredits it as such.
And I hate to agree, but I think you're really stretching for connections. Fact is, Terranigma, though good, had little to zero impact on the industry at all. It didn't sell well, never saw a full international release, and was made by a comparatively small dev team within Enix. It didn't merit any sequels (other than Granstream) and was one of the last games (or maybe THE last game, I'm not really sure) made by Quintet before their dissolution.
Sadly, none of the games in this series had any bearing on future design practices outside of Quintet (except maybe ActRaiser or Soul Blazer, but even then you're stretching). _________________

Man, do I have to reupload that Quintet screenshot I had from the ending of the first Ar tonelico game?
Quintet is still around, they just do minor things in games now, as opposed to making games outright like they used to. Granstream Saga really has nothing to do with the series either and lacks the connections that the Soul Blazer games have with each other, even if it's small easter eggs. _________________

*Reads thread*
I'm gonna max out my savegame on Soulblazer (85million XP and rising...), and then I'm gonna actually get around to bloody well playing The Granstream Saga.
But I digress; and now we return you to your regularly scheduled thread.... _________________
