Now the coolest part about this game is that how it relates to the REAL Taklaman. The Taklama desert in the game, you get lost. The real one, thousands of travelers have died and it earned a reputation of the name Taklamakan, which in ancient Turkish means "go in and you'll never come out." However, with the Arabs introducing the way of traveling desert by camels have helped thousands of people cross this region. |

Terranigma has history and real world references all over Chapter 3 & 4...thats why these chapters create this awesome athmosphere & feeling of walking in our world, making history, but with magic and a dark & light force behind everything.
In France, the French revolution, where democracy gets established.
In Libertia, where you help the town to become the biggest metropole ever.
and on and on and on... |

Definitely! Things like this keep the game timeless, and it never gets boring, since you can discover sth. new everytime you play it!
Btw: You should read Emeths "Philosophical Issues in Terranigma"-Thread.
...but make shure that you have ~ 4 hours spare
Some of the stuff he writes is very theoretical and high pitched, but he did uncover some very interesting things! |

A small update:
While the German version gave Ark a few days to spend in his home village after the defeat of Dark Gaia, and it was simply his "final happy time" in the English version, the Japanese version was much more poetic and...well...cruel in that respect: "最後の時", Ark had one last hour to live until the doom of the Earth's interior (the term could also be translated to "final time", but given the short time until Ark goes to bed, that's probably not the intended meaning). |

An hour is represented by 時間.
時 -ji would just be a suffix for clock hours. 6時 is six o'clock for instance.
When used separately it's read as 'toki' or time.
I would definitely translate the phrase 最後の時 as 'final time'. Just saying, don't try making that shit any more grim than it already is (although I probably needed only 5 minutes of happy time for Ark to talk to everyone orz).
What else..
Quatro's (クワトロ団の村 Kuatro Dan no Mura >> Kuwatoro-dan
Canyon (せんじんの谷 = Senjin no Tani) >> Although in a linguistic sense it's perfectly legid to say senjin has the doubled up meaning of vanguard, this seems very unlikely to be the intend to me. 'Senjin no tani' is a regular expression for 'bottomless valley' or 'valley of great depth', and in the case of kana it's usually best to pick the translation that makes the most sense. My guess is the makers intended the kana here as furigana rather than to create ambiguity, in other words for easy reads, since a japanese person will instantly get the meaning from the context anyway.
Mosque (グランドモスク = gurando mosuku)
I agree with Coz that it could partially be a reference to religious zealousness, but foremostly it's of course a play on 'Mosukuwa', Moscow.

Also, the translated version of the game may suffer from a lot of dubious grammar and some spelling errors, but as far as I can tell it's one of the most literally translated games I've encountered (with the exception of the song by Bloody Mary's doll children). In fact the rather oddball English is itself an indication of this fact, as this often reflects how the Japanese tend to phrase stuff. Just to name something, I'm pretty sure that Yomi refers to Ark in third person while talking directly to him on quite few occassions. |

Oh and this of course:
Quote: | Taklama (タクラマカン = Takuramakan)
Another bad mistake. The real-world desert Taklamakan was originally meant |
That's not really a mistake on behalf of the translators. There's an 8 character limit to all names and items in the game, hence the portmanteaus and shortening. |

Hmm, I could've sworn that in the ending when I played it, it said something about Ark going back to Crysta for one final DAY specifically....
Maybe I am remembering incorrectly. _________________
