.....I has it.
Finally! After more than 3 years, I'm back in the land of the employed at last!
So, after I quit my old job (my line manager was rather a douchebag.....under his management, more people were getting fired/quitting/walking out than he could physically hire....and some of those he hired were not even eligible to work, he was just taking ANYBODY who asked XD), I spent 6 months doing sod all.
I then signed on with the Jobcentre, and got my unemployment benefits since January 08. In June 2010, they said that I've been signing on for so long, they were referring me to a company that specialises in getting unemployed people back into work.
I THOUGHT THAT WAS THE WHOLE FRIGGIN' POINT OF THE JOBCENTRE? Then again, they ARE part of the government....
So, I started going to this other agency once a week as well, to attend classes on how to improve your chances of finding work and how to better manage your time and all this shit. They also help to put you forward for loads of jobs really quickly. With them, they said that everyone who goes there for more than 8 weeks HAS to take on voluntary unpaid work.
Um, excuse me, how is it VOLUNTARY work when they're forcing me to do it?
Anyway, so I started with the unpaid work at a local charity shop, after about 3 straight weeks of nothing but attending one job interview after another. Two days in with the unpaid work, I get a call from one of my interviewers....I've been hired! It only took me 3 years, 2 months, and an odd number of days.
My new position is an office job, as a Data Analyst for Ladbrokes, Head Office. Long daily commute (and hour and a half from one side of London to waaaaaaaaaaaaaay over the other side of it - and a yearly train ticket of £1760!), and shift-work in a place that's open 24/7, but hey, it's a job. And I start on Wednesday the 1st.
So in a couple of months, I'll have some spare cash again at last, and might make some more commissions. I remember I always wanted to make one featuring all the goodie characters from ALL the Quintet games, that would be epically awesome (and expensive), and might now be within my grasp shortly before Xmas. _________________

Hooray for gainful employment.
Also, money. Having all the spare time in the world kind of sucks without the money to enjoy it. _________________

Indeed, thanks. Although having a bunch of money and no time to spend it can also suck quite a bit, but at least money is no longer an issue.
Also commissions yay. _________________

EverPhoenix - you said it!
Jason - I can't believe I managed to get by for so long with so little cash. Then again, living with/sponging off my dad lightened the load considerably, I had nothing in the way of bills to pay and he only asked for £40/week towards all household bills. Jobseekers' Allowance of £65/week is way to small for most people who actually DO have bills to pay though....
Psychokind - LOL, I wish! :p My starting salary is gonna be £22K, which is actually straight in at slightly above national average (apparently), and more than the poor saps at the Jobcentre get paid. :p
So yes, in a few months I shall *definitely* have some spare cash for more (ambitious) commissions - including maybe some final-battle scenes for the games, and that big all-hero/ine monster I wanna get made. _________________

Well I graduated in summer 03 with a maths degree, it's taken me until now to get a good job (after previously having a really sucky counter service type job).
Good luck with your Electronics Engineering major, Deathpit! ^___^ _________________
