ROUND 20: Finale
Okay, just going to finish this one off and let it die less than gracefully. Apologies to all for the lackluster finish.

Dracula's shadow dissipated in a long thin strand of black ash. The Orb within Psychokind's chest shattered and fell to the ground. His powers felt slightly weakened.
"What now?" Vladrac asked. "What will Vampires rally around. The image of Lord Dracula was all that kept us going at times."
"Vampires will need a new Champion. I can think of nobody better to fill the role than myself," Psychokind said.
"You're such a humble man," EverPhoenix scoffed.
"I am," Psychokind nodded. "Leadership is a very serious responsibility, after all. I am lowering myself to serve all vampiric kind."
"But what of the Teksac. Our kinds don't get along that well," Vladrac sighed.
"We will," Psychokind groaned. "We will have to seek to rebuild our relationship of trust with them. It is a dark time for us, we will need every last vampire."
"Let's hurry on. I wonder what the others are up to now," EverPhoenix said.

Freedan, inferiare and Natal leaned back against their APC.
"I can't believe Rhodes is dead," Freedan cursed.
"I can't believe I never completed my Orb of Control," inferiare sighed. "Maybe that's just too much power for one person to handle."
Natal rubbed his arms. "I guess we should head back to the rendevous point?"
"Hopefully this will all make sense then," Freedan nodded, rubbing his hair.

Pisces lay dead on the ground. Sergeant Riley, Blade and Chicken lowered their weapons and fell back in the snow.
"I don't know how we did it, but we did it," Riley smiled.
"So is the threat over now? Can we go home?" Blade asked.
"We can go home, but I doubt the threat is actually over," Chicken nodded.

Shia Island, Two Days Later
"I didn't mean for it to take this long to get back to you guys," Riley sighed.
"Hell of a debriefing, can we go?" Psychokind asked impatiently.
"You don't have to be here if you don't want to, but I think you might find value in what we uncovered," Riley explained.
Psychokind sat, watching Riley pace.
"With the Brotherhood destroyed, Aegis and Antioch Armaments are completely out of business. The Z Virus seems to have been contained and we are slowly, but surely, restoring order to our cities," Riley explained.
"I'll try to sound happy for you," inferiare groaned.
Riley chuckled appreciatively.
"There's more to this story than just a simple uprising. As we all know the new strain of the Z Virus was actually developed by Aegis, and tested on Patient Zero. But that still doesn't explain the original outbreak."
"There was an original source?" Blade asked.
"Yes. And nobody caught on to it until just recently. Walker quit the company and tried to sabotage the new Z Virus strain," Riley began.
"Walker? The Aegis PR guy?" Freedan asked.
"The one that I found buried inside a wall in a cabin?" Psychokind asked.
"That one," Riley nodded. "But the reason he wanted to stop the new Z Virus from coming out wasn't out of a sense of protection."
The room grew silent.
"Psychokind. Weren't you surprised that Walker didn't manifest as a ghost or Ju-On after you found his corpse?" Riley asked.
"A little. I figured I had just gotten lucky," Psychokind nodded.
"He was already dead, before you found him," Riley explained.
"What are you talking about?" Chicken asked.
"Walker is our true Patient Zero. He was a zombie, who somehow came to terms with the disease and unbelievably recovered from the neurological damage. Even more amazing, he actually became smarter," Riley explained.
"He was what made Aegis think they could perfect the formula to breed a new class of human?" inferiare asked.
"Yes," Riley nodded. "And Riley, who was brilliant, knew that it would only be a matter of time before they no longer needed him. He disguised his actions as nobility, but it was simple selfish desire to be one of a kind. To be unique."
"But that doesn't make any sense!" EverPhoenix shouted. "He was a human, he walked among us. There was no change in appearance or his need to feed."
"After the disease corrected itself, there was no longer any need to supplement it. He wouldn't need to feed on human flesh to stay active because his digestive system began working again and was once again able to extract nutrients from food," Riley continued.
"That's all well and good," Natal interrupted. "But what difference does it make now?"
"Towards the end of his life, Walker reverted to his usual stage. It was very Flowers of Algernon. He enjoyed a few brief years of brilliance and almost restored life. And then for the last few months, became an unstoppable monster, who alone probably infected more humans than the first outbreak," Riley nodded.
He turned. "And the problem is, we know that there are other humans all over the world who were considered MIA or KIA during the first outbreak who have returned alive and well."
"And that means?" Psychokind asked.
Riley turned back to face them. "Anybody could be carrying the disease. And following Walker as an example, anybody could suddenly become a ravenous monster spreading the virus faster than ever before."
"What can we do?" Freedan asked.
"Well, we had to Quarantine anybody whoever came in contact with the Z Virus, whoever went KIA or MIA during the first outbreak, and whoever showed signs of infection now," Riley said.
"What do you mean had to?" Blade asked.
Riley sighed. "It has already been done. Everybody is here in this facility. Locked down."
"What's going on?" Blade shouted, noticing as shutters covered the windows.
"I'm sorry. But we're a threat to society now. Everybody who poses a threat to normality is on this island. And most of them will become a zombie within 24 to 48 hours," Riley said.
There was a familiar moaning sound from a nearby corridor, and the sounds of screaming and glass breaking.
"Don't worry though. Nobody will ever leave this island alive," Riley said, his body slowly mutating. "Riley certainly didn't."
Standing before them was Lestat D'Lioncourt,who took a brief bow before saying his final words. "This is where it ends. In your own private hell."
Lioncourt fell to the ground, dead. The lights went out, the warriors clung together, forming a circle. As red emergency lights flickered on, they saw themselves surrounded by a row of dark figures. Another scream pierced through the halls, and the zombie horde slowly moved in towards the circle.

eFlare looked at a screen as the party was ripped to shreds by the zombies. "I hope you are happy with yourself."
boxxleman shook his head. "Not at all. That trial was a complete and utter failure. I hope the next Wing will prove more able to deal with the zombie threat."
"And when do those trials begin?" eFlare asked.
"Soon enough," boxxleman nodded. "Make sure you put some effort into it this time."
And with that boxxleman left the room and eFlare slowly turned off the monitor.
