I've been on an ebay hunt lately to reinvigorate my love of collecting NES games... I've purchased nearly thirty in the last two weeks of various rarity. I love ebay, but sometimes you see some rarely crazy stuff up there, from the ROFLWAFFLES to Howard Stern Toast... I'm going to put up a few links to odd/ridiculous ebay items I've seen over the last few weeks.
Unopened Box of Real Ghostbusters Cereal. Price: 200USD
To think, I ate this stuff when I was a kid, and it went for four bucks a box. Had I (disgustingly) held onto it for a few years, unopened, I'd be able to sell it on ebay at an insane price.
Nick Cage Vampire Photo. Price: 1 Million
This isn't the listing, but the news article about it, as the listing was pulled almost as quick as it went up. Apparently, the photo, taken sometime in the late 1800's, proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Nick Cage is a vampire.
Funny, I always knew he was, but I always thought he drained us of our money with his stupidly horrible movies... I guess he loves blood just as much as money.
2011 Nike Mag Price: Various, upwards of 1,500USD
This is also not a listing, but the extended commericial for the new 2011 Nike Mag, based on the Nike shoes from the 2nd Back to the Future film. Unfortunately, they don't power lace. (Not until 2015!)
There are a few cameoes, and it's a pretty cool commericial. The shoes were auctioned on ebay for two weeks and all proceeds were going to the Michael J Fox Parkinson research Foundation. I'm not sure if they ever made it into stores, although I know back in 2009 they introduced them as the Air McFlys. This time however, the shoes light up.
Catch this one quick, it goes off soon:
Rare NES Game Cheetamen 2- Box Only. Price: 91+ (Reserve not met)
Just for the box of this game, you'll be shelling out a forture. A brand new copy just went off at almost two grand. This game is famous for the fact that, not only did the first one, originally featured on the shitty Action 52 suck, but this game was never actually completed, so it's filled with bugs galore. You can't even access the last two levels unless by sheer coincidence. (For more info, watch AVGN video "Cheetamen")
And for a fond ebay memory.
I was on ebay some seven years ago, looking up some nes games back in those days. I had come across a listing for something called "ROFL WAFFLES."
The picture was simple enough; Two waffles, one with "RO" and the other with "FL."
The listing information was hilarious stupid, and gave these waffles some crazy backstory, that I'm pretty sure included something to do with the Kennedy assasination and the failure of Vietnam or something like that. Anyway, the auction went off for something like 400 bucks- for two waffles with magic marker on them. Incredible, huh? _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it. I want that so bad, but it's not worth the $360. _________________

I've got a screencap of the PAL version of Terranigma going on ebay for USD $2500. No joke. I laughed really hard, since the guy popped up on Amazon too. _________________

It's incredible the kind of ridiculous things that have happened on ebay. I remember a friend of mine sold himself on ebay- he found out a pro wrestler had done it. (He sold, essentially, a two hour block of his time to spend with the "wiinner") After the auction was over, he found out he woman who "paid" for him was a local girl who had stalked him at one point. I had completely forgotten about that until now. _________________ "...at first it's fine and you think you have a dark side – it's exciting – and then you realise the dark side wins every time if you decide to indulge in it.
